What is the Montessori Community Council?

MCC is our organization that brings everyone involved with the Montessori Magnet School together to create a rich community environment. Created in the same year that the Montessori Magnet School was founded, the original community members wanted a parent teacher organization that included each member of the Montessori Magnet School community. In order to belong to MCC, you need only to be part of the MMS community (i.e. your child needs to attend the school or you need to be a member of staff). Acting like a PTA (but without the membership dues) the MCC uses fundraising to help contribute to important school programs, events and field trips.

MCC Meetings

MCC Meetings are held bi-monthly at 6:30 p.m. in the school library, unless otherwise noted. Childcare is provided for meetings, but in order to receive childcare, you need to call the main office, (518) 475 6675, to reserve a spot.

What the MCC does

Primarily focused on developing a supportive community for the school, the MMS acts like a PTA, only everyone is already a member when they join the school. Therefore everyone can have a say on how the MCC runs.  MCC is responsible for school social activities and events, fundraising, school book fairs and any other business that parental involvement and volunteering can help the school achieve. One of our current successful programs involving the entire school community is Gardens and Outdoor Life.

Keeping in Contact

An important part of MCC is keeping the community connected. We do this by sponsoring a monthly newsletter, a MCC Yahoo Group and by printing a school directory (free). The Yahoo Group acts as a listserv, giving families a convenient way to discuss different ideas, be reminded of events, look for volunteers and stay connected. Some of the MCC’s key events are: Start of Year Ice Cream Social, Fall Mum Flower Sale, Multicultural Dinner, Family Dances, Book Fair, Skating Party, Pancake Breakfast, Summer Camp Fair, Mother’s Day Flower Sale, Variety Show and Staff Appreciation Breakfast.
