Baby I am sorry

About me

I was born in 1982 in Kolkata (WB). I completed my B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering and M.Tech in Automation and Computer Vision from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur in 2006. I received my PhD in Computer Science from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata in 2015.

I was a Post Doctoral Researcher in DTU Compute at Lyngby and at Temasek Labs, NTU Singapore. Currently I worked as an Ambizione fellow in the LASEC group in Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne since June 2017. I am currently at USI in Lugano.

Running Records

I am an avid long distance runner. It is more of an addiction now for me ... Some of my records

Some tips to long distance runners. While running always try to run/land on your toe-tips and never on the entire feet or heels. Otherwise this leaves you open to chronic heel ailments like plantar fascitis, a condition I would not wish on my worst enemy. Try to run on softer surfaces like grass lawns or athletic tracks, or even on treadmills. Avoid concrete roads or similar hard surfaces: if this can not be avoided make sure you wear proper running shoes and always land on toetips. For beginners, try and take it slow initially and build up your stamina. When I first started running, I could only run around 2 km but I gradually built up lung capacity, calf muscles etc.

Lausanne Musee des Beaux arts

a) The picture depicts the story in Genesis of Rebecca meeting Eliezer by a well. Abraham sent his servant Eliezer to find a wife for his son Isaac. An elderly man, perhaps Bethuel, Rebecca's father, introduces Rebecca seated on the edge of the well of Haran. Eliezer presents her the jewel in his right hand. Painted by Luca Giordano in Naples after his stay in Venice, this work displays a synthesis of elements from the Neapolitan School, the use of chiaroscuro, with Venetian elements such as use of landscape, bright colors and the elegance of the female figure.

(b)  The painter Felix Labisse was asked to design sets and costumes for a stage version of Franz Kafka's The Trial. The portrait shows us the actor in greasepaint and dressed as Josef K. in this painting with its greenish tones, that slightly-off feeling of the uncanny comes from joining  a hyper-realist workmanship to a setting that seems to have sprung from a dream. The empty chairs, posed throughout a tunnel. lead to a stair that is bathed in light, like stations along the absurd path a human being travels towards death.
