Saturday, June 16, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm The Dartry Centre Kinlough, Co Leitrim Cost: €75; €60 if payment received by June 6 Maeve is contradictory, a fascinating and challenging figure from Irish mythology. She is the fierce Warrior Queen of the Táin Bó Cúailnge, The Battle Raid of Cooley, who started a war for the sake of a bull. In this aspect she is a deity of sovereignty, sexuality, battle and death. But
Maeve is also the ancient Earth Goddess of Knocknarea. In this
aspect she presides over the entire ritual
landscape of the North-West; a landscape that stretches from her Royal
Court at Rathcroghan in Co Roscommon, to Carrowkeel and Carrowmore in Co Sligo,
and as far north as the cairn on
Kinlough's own mountain, Arroo. She
is a Goddess of Motherhood, Summer, Fertility and the Ground-beneath-our-feet. This
workshop is an opportunity for women
to get messy and playful with
collage, paint, clay, wood, beads and feathers, and to explore together the gifts and challenges Maeve offers us. Part of the "Discover the Goddess" Workshop Series
In the beginning was the Goddess. The first images humans made to represent the ‘sacred otherness of life’ were images of the Divine Feminine. Over time, images of a male God began to appear, joined with the Goddess in a sacred marriage. And then, around 3,000 years ago, the Goddess began to disappear from the myths and imagery of Europe and the Mediterranean, to be replaced by an all-powerful, singular male God. What did it mean, to women and the world, to have images of the Divine that were feminine? In these workshops women will explore the myth of the Goddess through creative play. We will unearth our own half-forgotten memories of the sacred feminine, we will discover how the Goddess reveals herself in our own lives, and we will discover what it would mean to make her central to our world again. Thisis one of a series of workshops where women can come together to Discover the Goddess. Titles for future workshops may include:
