Education

PhD (2009)        BSc Eng (Chem) (2004)

I completed my junior school (Secondary School Certifiacte, SSC) from the Government Laboratory High School, Dhaka in 1996. I then enrolled to the renowned Notre Dame College, Dhaka, Bangladesh to complete my high-school degree (Higher Secondary Certificate, HSC). The days of NDC were truly unforgettable. NDC taught me the disciplines, hard-working and most importantly the inner meaning of education (which I realized later on). The teachers taught the students to be inquisitive. We grew up as self-motivated and self-confident. Undoubtedly, in NDC my passion for science and higher education had been built-up. I completed my HSC in 1998.

I was highly interested to study Physics. However, my family convinced me to pursue for my engineering career; I enrolled into the Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET. BUET is a tough academic instituition. In engineering, it is the top ranked university in Bangladesh. Courses were full of class-tests, labs/sessionals, lab-quizes, interviews and presentations, etc. It was tough, but I guess, NDC already built-up the platform to cope with the hostile environment. Our batch was known as ChE'98, BUET; aka: Azeotrope. The key-feature I found in this batch: HIGHLY COMPETITIVE. Few of my friends are really top quality (national and international level), and I am very much sure they will go far in their professional career. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my BUET life. We organized different depertmental programs which involved the students and academics. With the semester ending concerts and tours, BUET life was not bad at all...:). The days were really colourful.

BSc Eng (Chem) in BUET is a 4yrs course, but due to different socio-economic and political conditions our academic sessions had been started in delay; our academic calenders were extended due to different other reasons; and we graduated in 2004 instead of 2002-03.

I did my undergraduate thesis on the industrial wastewater treatment. Me along my group-mate really worked hard on that project. After my graduation I got a job in one international research project, which addressed the industrial wastemanagement and the impact on the environment. This job gave me the chance to strengthen my background on industrial waste(water)management. In my job, I got the opportunity to work with the industry people as well as the academics to address the real life environmental problem. And I learnt a lot there. I had the previlege to work indipendent on my own field and propose my own ideas to the project management.

At the mid of 2006, I received the PhD scholarship offer from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Monash University, Clayton, Australia. I started my PhD in Monash University from Oct'06. My PhD project was: 'Bioactivce Papers: Printing, Activity and Stability' dealing with 'Biosurface Engineering'. Biosurface Engineering comprises the knowledge of surface chemistry, surface engineering, biochemistry and biochemical engineering. No wonder the topic has its novelty, but starting something completely different and new is always hard. My supervisors (Prof. Gil Garnier and Dr. Wei Shen) are world-class experts on their fields. They really helped me with their regular meetings to kick-off. And progressively I started getting the innate of a high quality PhD project. I submitted my PhD thesis in Dec'09.
