About

Layout Construction

I use nothing but brand new track, electrical components and construction materials. All track joints and wire connections are soldered to guarantee perfect electrical continuity throughout. This not only prevents the possibility of electrical weak or dead spots from developing over time but also rails from ever splitting apart.

How I Got Started

The worlds best books on building model railroad layouts all state that it takes between three to four layouts before you really know what you’re doing. That’s why it is so important to purchase a brand new layout designed and built by a professional who has been doing it for years. I built my first N scale 4x8 layout in 1980. Since then I've been building model railroad layouts in all sizes and scales for myself and others.

In the early nineties I started model bridge building. I got frustrated not being able to find prototypical looking movable model bridges (swing, bascule, vertical lift etc.) anywhere on the market. The obvious solution was to learn how to scratch build them myself. Movable bridges, especially operating ones are fairly rare on model railroad layouts. When someone does have one, and is set up properly, it's very impressive.

I also design track plans from scratch or work from already existing plans. I can also build you an around the room system one section at a time. You can even start with a switching layout that grows. This provides a way to enjoy operating and fine detailing right now while the rest of your layout hasn't even been decided on yet. Whatever your situation is I can work with you so that your layout is built exactly the way you want it. Just contact me and I will answer any questions that you have and figure out exactly what would be the perfect model railroad layout for you.

Pricing

The reason why my prices are so affordable is mainly because I work at home. This means that you’re not paying for any type of overhead costs which in many cases are quite substantial. I also promise that you will not get put onto any type of waiting list. Typical layout build time is between three to six weeks. The reason that some items say Call For Price is due to current availability and shipping costs of materials needed for small layouts at that time.

Payment I usually require around 60% down to begin work. The remainder is due after I email photos of the job completed before packing and shipping.

Thank you.
