WHAT: MoboGoGlobo! It's a mobile-orienteering event, for teams of two, where a runner is guided through an orienteering course without a map, only aided by the instructions of his/her teammate over the phone. There will be one MoboGoGlobo course, approximately 3.5km in distance. WHO: Anyone in the world can participate! If you're local to Seattle you can be a runner. If you live anywhere else in the world, you can be a remote navigator over the phone. We'll electronically provide the maps! WHEN: The event starts at 10:00am local time in Seattle on March 22th, 2009. However, pre-registration is required for all participants. Local runners must sign up by March 8th. Global navigators by March 15th. Teams and exact start times will be announced on March 17th. See Timeline for further details. WHERE: Volunteer Park, Seattle, USA... and anywhere else you happen to be calling from! WHY: Proceeds from this event will benefit WIOL, the Washington Interscholastic Orienteering League. It's for a good cause! Funds raised from this event help send our local junior to the US Interscholastic Orienteering Champs! HOW TEAMS ARE FORMED: Teams will be made by pairing up local runners with global navigators. If you live in the Seattle area you can participate as a local runner for FREE (a donation is suggested, though). If you want to participate from anywhere else on the planet, we're requesting a donation pledge, minimum $10, to WIOL. Local runners, get involved here. Global navigators, get involved here. Once the runners are registered and the donations are pledged, the team selections will be generated automatically. All global participants will either use the default ranking list, or provide their own ranking list. The highest-pledging donor will be paired with the runner at the top of his/her ranking list. Then the next highest-paying donor will be paired with the highest-ranked runner still available on his/her list, and so on. Understand that as a pledge donor, you may not be teamed with your first choice! Since most of our global competitors don't know the assortment of local runners as well as we do, we'll compile the default ranking list, based on speed, experience, ability, and local and national rankings. This will be the default ranking list for those who don't submit their own. Why would you provide your own ranking list? Maybe because you have a certain friend or relative that you'd prefer teaming with. To increase the chances of being paired with this person, you should put him/her at the top of your own ranking list. The donations will be finalized and transacted as soon as we announce the teams. |
