A thick client is a mobile device which has more significant hardware resources. A thick client will support flash memory and have a more robust processor. The operating system will have a user interface more like what we are used to see with Microsoft Windows or Apple. The GCC Mapz Project is an application I started last year. It was tested on my Dell Axim X51v PDA. My PDA has wi-fi access (can be compared to the Apple iTouch MP3 player) and runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. I can create and modified Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. It is designed to be Windows on a small screen/small device. The GCC Mapz application lets the user view the entire campus map (a little difficult to make out specific buildings) and quadrant images which represent roughly one quarter of the screen. The user can also search a building based on the builder name selected from a combo box (note: since this is a test system, not all buildings are loaded). The screen shots are of a PDA emulator that comes with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
