Scholarships from the MMSYO Parents' Organization

Thanks to the hard work and fundraising of the MMSYO Parents’ Organization, the Mercer/Macon Symphony Youth Orchestra is holding its 3rd Annual Scholarship Competition on April 28, 2012. Two scholarships will be awarded: the Graduating Senior Scholarship and the Returning Student Scholarship.

Macon Symphony Concerto Competition
The MSO holds two concerto competitions each year — one for school age students and one for college students. These winners often have the opportunity to perform with the MSO at the Young People’s concerts. The Concerto and Advanced Concerto competitions will be held January 21, 2012 in the Fickling Hall on the Mercer University campus. For entry requirements, call 478/301-5502.

Georgann Blum Scholarship for Strings
This scholarship was named to honor Georgann for her many years of work as chairman of the Youth Activities Committee. The scholarship was created to raise funds to support string development by paying for private lessons.

Joseph Maerz Award

This scholarship, sponsored by the Morning Music Club of Macon, and is named for Professor Joseph Maerz, a member of the Wesleyan College faculty who was widely known as a teacher, music critic, and performer. 

Auditions for the $2000 award will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Vineville United Methodist in Macon. Applications must be postmarked by January 21, 2012.
