History of the BIRTHSONG

When a woman finds herself with child in a certain tribe in Africa, all the ladies go with her to the wilderness to listen for the BIRTHSONG of the child. As the song comes, they all begin to sing it together, and when the child is born, they sing it to him to welcome him into the tribe and proclaim a blessing to him of who he is. The song is also sung at all the most important events in his life including his transition into maturity, his marriage, and as he passes from this life to the next in death. Even more wonderful, if he should ever do anything that is considered a violation of tribal law, rather than rebuking him, his clan gathers around him and sings his song back to him to remind him of who he is.

BIRTHSONG Testimony

On an evening in the last week of September, 2005, I had a houseful of guests, as I was hosting a gathering the coming weekend.  I had occasion, while one of my guests were helping me with the meal preparation, to play a portion of my Birth Song.  I did not mention to her what the music was.  I just popped the CD in and began at the beginning.  I had played a short segment of the music when others began arriving and chatting, etc., so I turned of the CD and never gave it another thought, until after we had finished dinner, and the guests were ready to move into the living room for some relaxation. 

My friend who had earlier heard a portion of the music, requested that we all sit in silence together, and play this beautiful music that I had shared with her before the meal.  This was the first time that I was able to listen intently to my whole Birth Song in its entirety without interruption.  I will never forget what occurred that evening.  As I sat there, with a room full of loved friends, I found myself lost in the song.  Suddenly, a small child appeared to me in a vision.  This child was the express image of myself at approximately 4 years old.  She was so familiar, and I loved her so dearly.  Of course, it was myself, but yet she had a quality of separateness from the person I had become, sitting there on my living room floor, surrounded by a group of friends.  She drew close to me and spoke to me:  "Many believe that I was damaged and that I need a healing.  There is much written about healing the inner child, etc.  I am here to tell you that I am not damaged.  I was preserved in heaven, while YOU accumulated all those years of experiences, which shaped your perspective and colored our opinions, etc.  I never went through a trauma.  I never endured a hardship that would "shape my character."  I never experienced the pain and I never felt a need to find wholeness or healing.  I am you, the child who was preserved in heaven and I am here to lead you into places you can never go without me.  I am the purity of your soul."

While the Birth Song played through to the end.  I found myself communing with the innocence that had been hidden away for so long within my being - she was still there!  She remembered, and drew me back to the truth.  That evening was the beginning of a shedding of the garments tattered by experiences that had induced me to draw improper conclusions about life and love and the world.  I have, since that day, been on a journey back to the beginning, only to find that who I AM is the same as I have always been, and when I begin to find myself entangled again with the cares and complications of what most adults struggle with every day, I hearken back to the peaceable, lovely, bright eyed wonderful little girl who leads me past all the confusion, and through the Gates of Heaven, right here on earth. 

Thanks again, Mary Lou, for your beautiful gift of my Birth Song.  I am beginning to remember who I am.
