September 12, 2011

“How I Started Raising Chickens” by Hajni Joslyn. A Club member Hajni has always been at home with nature and is a devoted gardener. Her home shows this with ponds surrounded by tree and flower borders, ponds with fountains and other water features provide soothing, calming sounds conducive to meditation. The clucking and crowing of chickens and a rooster brings a homey feel and speaks to sustainable living on fresh eggs, fruit from the orchard, and abundant homegrown vegetables.

75th Anniversary Tea, our members will celebrate our 75 years at Bloedel Reserve.

November 14, 2011  

“Vermicomposting” by Becky Croston. Becky is a Master Gardener, Master Composter, Noxious Weed Advisor and Native Plant Advisor. A Master Composter for 7 years, Becky has taught Yard Debris composting, “Soils”, and vermicomposting to many groups throughout the county. She will show us how the right worms can work for you in developing nutrient rich compost, plus the proper care and maintenance of compost worms and how to build your own worm bin.

“Flower Arranging for Dummies” by Marilyn Mathis. Marilyn is a club member, past President, Master Gardener, Native Plant Advisor and owner of Flora & Fauna Landscape Design. She as won several Blue ribbons from District and Fairs, Kitsap County Fair Floral Past President’s award, and the Jo Ann Goldman Artistic Craft award,  Using some of her past arrangements, she will show club members that designs are not hard, but easy and fun.

“Water Conservation in the Home” by Molly McCabe, owner of A Kitchen That Works (AKTW) an awarding winning design-build firm specializing in kitchens and baths. Her company is certified sustainable design and construction professionals. Molly is a regular contributor to the West Sound Home and Garden Magazine, gives seminars and talks at the BI Home and Garden Show and many more. Her program will give us the importance of water conservation and the many ways to achieve it without feeling deprived

March 12 2012

“Edible Landscape Design” by Chuck Estin;. owner of Bios Design, a permaculture design consultancy specializing in edible landscape design, whole-systems farm design and community sustainability here on Bainbridge. He will show us how we can have an edible landscape using principles of permaculture and sustainable agriculture..

“How to Know Our Local Birds” by Ian Bentryn. Owner of, Ian Bentryn Fine Pruning; a Local writer and BI Land Trust naturalist. He has pursued his passion for local birds for nearly 20 years. Ian will share with us the pleasure of developing deep acquaintance with feathered friends at home with discussions on when and where to find them, changing seasons, feeding and nesting habits and best of all bird listening!

“The Wonderful and Wacky World of Plants” by Heidie Kaster owner of DragonFly Farms Nursery. Heidie is from Bainbridge and owned “Froggy Bottom” nursery there for many years before moving to her Hansville. home garden, filled with ponds, dragonflies, grasses, amazing tropical's and a huge sensual experience for the ears, eyes and nose.
