The library in the Nature Center has a wealth of information for the amateur naturalist, especially in the areas of gardens and gardening, wildflowers, trees, birds and birding. The collection focuses on “how-to” books, reference books, and books about the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Labels on the library shelves provide a guide to the various subjects. The books, cataloged using the Library of Congress system, are borrowable by Medford Leas residents who can sign them out in the Nature Center located across from Parking Lot C. Books about gardens and arboreta in the Delaware Valley Region and around the world are in a Browsing Collection for use in the library. A rocking chair next to this collection provides a place for restful reading and a pleasant break from a long walk. Books in the Circulating Collection may be borrowed for one week using the same sign-out process as in the Community Center Library. Books borrowed from the Nature Library can be returned to the library’s “drop box” next to the desk or to the Community Center Library or Reception Desk. For residents and others seeking specific additional “how-to” or reference information, an e-mail request to hbrk1016@medleas.com or to naturelibrary@medleas.com will receive a prompt reply. The library is staffed by appointment and by chance, usually on Tuesday mornings. |
