An Echo Heights resident provided us with a copy of this map which clearly shows the 52 acres of woodland was officially regarded as a proposed park as recently as the 1990s.

This resident, and several others, also recall the large sign posted by the municipality which called the area "park land".

So it was fairly recently that the Echo Heights forest was rezoned to R2 residential. And even more recently that it was seen as an opportunity by the Forces Of Growth (FOG).

Since council so recently changed its mind about Echo Heights, perhaps it wouldn't be too difficult to change it back again.
