North Cowichan Mayor Jon Lefebure was invited by the Echo Heights committee and fielded questions throughout the evening. He told the crowd that while council was continuing the process to build residential housing at Echo Heights, he was willing to listen to views from Chemainus residents. And he said that North Cowichan" did not need" funds that would be raised through developing the property.

The crowd was respectful of those who spoke during the two-hour meeting, and heard a range of views. Most speakers were in favour of preservation of the entire 52 acres.

Chemainus businessman Gary Rivest was one of several speakers who asked "Why" North Cowichan was considering developing the property since there is an abundance of privately-owned land available for housing development.
