Who is eligible?

Any student enrolled in OUHSD, OCESD, or TUSD with a valid 506 form on file with the OUHSD Indian Education office. 

What is a 506 form?

A 506 form documents a student's American Indian heritage.  The amount of funding is determined by the number of valid 506 forms of file with the Indian Education office.

Why should I fill out a form?

Each valid 506 form helps support the efforts of the program in meeting the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indian students. 

 

Authorized by Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.  The purpose of Title VII is to support elementary and secondary schools in their efforts to ensure Native American students meet or exceed State academic content standards and student academic standards. 

WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER

High school students at Las Plumas and Oroville High School recieve services from a para educator.  The para educator assists in the classroom by providing tutoring in math and language arts.  The para educator also provides academic and attendance support, intervening when necessary.

Eligible elementary students at selected schools recieve reading and/ or math tutoring.  Para educators also monitor and follow-up with parents regarding student  academic progress and attendance issues.

There is a free after school reading program for all eligilble students in 3rd grade through 12th grade.  The Fast ForWord family of products is an individualized and interactive computer program that is designed to  impact language and reading developement.  Research has often shown increased reading levels of 1-2 years in only 6-8 weeks.
