Block 5 by Missymack
Finished size: 6x6"
Materials needed: Cream Homespun, assorted scraps of fabric for borders, embroidery threads, colouring pencils, general sewing supplies
Firstly, cut a 4.5 x 4.5" square of cream homespun. Then from your assorted scraps, cut the following: two 4.5x1" strips, four 5.5x1" strips, and two 6.5x1" strips. Sew a 4.5x1" strip to either side of the cream square. Press flat. Then sew a 5.5x1" stip to the top and bottom of the block. Press flat. Repeat the process again, with a 5.5x1" strip sewn either side of the block, and the last two 6.5x1" strips to the top and bottom. Press flat.
Download the stitchery template from the attachment below and print it off. Using a lightbox or window, trace the design onto your block using a sharp 2B pencil, or a fine pigma pen.
Once the design is fully traced, it's time to colour in! I have used the Prismacolour Premier pencils for this block, as they are heat set and water resistant. I have used the following colours:
Pink for the left pig, light brown for the middle pig, pale beige for the right pig, dark yellow for the hooves, brown for the dirt, and pale blue for the food tub. Press pencil harder in the same colours for the noses of each pig.
Then using two strands of matching coloured thread, backstitch around the design outlines. Work the dots in French Knots, and use green thread for the grass stalks. Press well once complete.
