Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem Day

What Is the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem?

On the first Sunday of every October, hundreds of millions of people around the world join together to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  In just a few years, this event has quickly become the largest Israel - focused prayer event in history.  But why set aside this day each year to pray for Jerusalem?

RESOLUTION for a CALL to PRAYER

UNDERSTANDING... that we are children of Abraham by faith, the "wild olive branch" grafted into the root of G-d's covenant (Romans 11:17-26), and,

RECOGNIZING... that G-d has kept his word to Abraham and His descendants and settled them in their homeland again, according to the word of the prophets (Amos 9:14-15), (Ezekiel 36: esp. v.24), and,

RECOGNIZING... that we have a biblical mandate according to Psalm 122, and many other Scriptures to seek the good and prosperity of Jerusalem, until the Lord makes her a praise in all the earth, and

AFFIRMING... that G-d's love and intended blessing is for all nations and peoples, and that we have goodwill and love for all mankind, including all inhabitants of the Holy Land, and desire peace in this entire region;

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED call upon all men and women of prayer to yearly set aside the First Sunday in October, near the season of Yom Kippur, as the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Purpose

We set aside this one day each year to raise global awareness and intercession for G-d's purposes in Israel, knowing that this hour in history is critical and our authority in prayer is great.  Though we pray every day for Israel, we seek on this day to unite believers around the world in raising a cry to Heaven on behalf of this troubled, but strategic land and its people.  We believe in G-d's promises for His beloved nation and fervently pray to hasten the day when He brings fulfillment to His word.

"... and give Him no rest until He establishes and
till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth."

(Isaiah 62:7)
History

Begun in 2002 in meetings with leading political and religious leaders from Israel and the United States, this is now the largest prayer movement of its kind, with over 1000 key leaders within the Evangelical Christian world lending their active support.

Vision

Our vision is for sustained, fervent, and informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of G-d for Jerusalem and all her people.  Our goal, by G-d's grace, is that by this coming October we will have 175 participating nations and 300 million believers praying for the peace of Jerusalem.
Prayer Resolution

On May 29, 2003, over 450 international leaders converged in New York City for the Jerusalem Prayer Banquet, where they signed the Prayer Resolution that would launch the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.  This historic event was the beginning of what is now the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history.
