Welcome to your classroom away from school! We'll use this site when school is closed for any reason. You have to wake up early and check the site by 9:00 a.m. to get your assignments. First, you'll go to our class blog (http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=278571) and sign in for the day by adding a post. You post should say, "(Your Name) is here." For example, Salman will type, "Salman Shahid is here!" In this way, I'll know you're up and ready to work. Science: Today in science the students completed the Lesson Checkpoint on page 25. By Monday, you must have completed your summaries for Chapter 4, the Lesson Checkpoint written out in full and complete sentences, except for #3, which can be a Venn diagram, and the completed Chapter 4 Study Guide. They are all due Monday morning. We will begin reading Lesson 5 on animal adaptations next week. The final Chapter 1 science test is Thursday, November 19th. Math: Go to Mrs. Amanda's blog to check for your daily homework assignment: Grammar: Today in grammar we reviewed our homework in the Verb packet, page 25, and in English, page 45. Your homework in the verb packet is page 26, due Monday. The English textbook homework is to read the instructions on page 32 and 33 and write a story or poem. First, do the exercises on page 32 mentally or out loud. If you wish, you could write them out, but I won’t be collecting it. Then reflect on the picture of the girl and the dog, follow the instructions on page 33, and write either a story (#1) or a poem (#2). Read the instructions carefully. This homework is due Monday. Don’t wait until Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. to do it. It’s a lot of writing. Reading: Reread Young Arthur and prepare for the test tomorrow. Complete the comprehension exercise on page 14 of the Young Arthur workbook. Turn in the completed WB tomorrow. Writing: Rewrite your legend perfectly. Due tomorrow. I won’t accept late assignments. Social Studies: Today and tomorrow in class we are publishing our final Pakistan Is… poem. Housekeeping: I still haven’t gotten an account with Scholastics. Mrs. Amanda will help me figure out the final cost for the books (books + shipping and handling to Pakistan + 2% international transaction surcharge). I’ll let you know when I’m ready to start accepting orders. Homework:
Assignments: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 The assignments today are the mostly the same as yesterday because only eight of you have checked in so far. By today, all of your parents should have received the text message from the school telling everyone to check the blogs. If you know anyone who hasn't checked in yet, remind him or her to check in and do the assignments because I'm grading them now! Thank you to the two of you who've emailed me with your prediction and summary. For those of you who have completed all the online homework, you should continue practicing your math facts. Also, revise your legend to include more descriptive and sensory language. Draw me a picture with your words. Also, check conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation). Write your second draft with all the revisions, additions, deletions and edits. If you have your social studies book, begin reading Unit 1. If you have your English book, review simple and complete subjects and predicates. We'll have a subject/predicate quiz shortly after we reconvene. Assignments: Tuesday, October 27, 2009: MATH: Go to http://oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/maths1.html and practice math facts for at least a half an hour.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Reading: Practice making predictions and summarizing. Go to http://www.magickeys.com/books/marymakeover/index.html and read the story "Little Miss Mary and the Big Monster Makeover" to the end of page 2. At the end of page 2, make a prediction about how the story will end. Create an email to me at aodonnell@las.edu.pk and write your prediction. Don't send the email yet! Then go back to the story and finish reading it. When you are done, summarize the story in your email to me. Make sure you include the important events, but don't tell me about the small details. Was your prediction right? Writing: I know you don't have your Perfect Paragraph notebooks, but you have all started the brainstorming for your legend. Today, you should organize your ideas and write the first draft on lined paper (in pencil, double-spaced). Remember, your legend should be a fictional explanation of something that occurs in nature. Put in lots of rich details and feel free to make it funny, too. SCIENCE: Learn about the Yellow Baboon. Go to http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/wildkingdom/wildladies/tour/tour.html.
a. Tour a Baboon.
b. Watch the three videos.
c. Read about the six behavior traits of the yellow baboon.
I'll give you a quiz when we return to class. |
