Second grade is a transitional year where students are developing more independence and responsibility toward their school work. Your child will be expected to turn in quality work, try their best on every assignment, and complete their work in a timely manner.
The following are some of the policies and procedures that will occur in our classroom:
2nd grade will not start eating lunch until 11:35. Therefore, we will be having a snack each day at 9:00. Please send a small, healthy snack with your child each day.
Behavior Chart-
You will find your child’s behavior chart in their "every day" folder that will come home each day. A sticker or stamp denotes a great day. If your child breaks a rule they will have to change their color. The infractions are as follows:
-one color change- 5 minutes off recess and 5 points from conduct grade
-two color changes- 10 minutes off recess and 10 points off conduct grade
-three color changes- miss all of recess and 15 points off conduct grade
Conduct grades will be given at the end of each week.
Newsletter-
I will send home a weekly newsletter on Mondays that will inform you of what your child will be learning for the week, birthdays, up-coming events, and other classroom information. The every day folder is their yellow folder.
Homework-
Homework provides your child with immediate reinforcement of skills and concepts that will be learned that week. Homework will include Spelling, Math, Language, and a minimum of 15 minutes of Reading a night. Leveled books will be sent home after TPRI is given. The homework folder is their red folder!
Grading-
Your child will receive a number grade on all their work. Below a 70 is failing. If your child makes below a 70 on daily work, the information will be re-taught to them and they will have the opportunity to redo the assignment for a 70. Your child will have the opportunity to redo all failing assignments, except for tests.
For late papers, they will have 2 days to finish their work. If they do not finish their work after those 2 days then it will be 5 points off for every day the paper is not turned in.
For make-up work your child will have how ever many days they were absent to make up the work. So if they were absent 2 days they will have 2 days to make up the work. Most of the make-up work will be done in school!
Starting the second semester if a child does not put his/her name and date on the paper it will be 5 points off.
Conferencing-
I am available during my conference time from 8:00-8:55am or after school. If you would like to schedule a conference please call me at school 972-429-3000 ext. 6300, send a note, or email.
It is important that the school is aware of how your child will get home every day. Their safety is of utmost importance to the entire staff at Tibbals Elementary. I must receive a letter, email, or phone call from the school office if there is a change from the way that your child usually gets home from school. This is a grade level and school policy. If you plan to contact me by email or phone please do so as early as possible. Also, if you send a note, instruct your child to give it to me first thing in the morning. I am sure safety is also a concern for you as a parent. Thank you for your cooperation!
