This course is intended to provide opportunities for students to learn elements of media and visual literacy and to develop introductory skills in television and multimedia production.
Tuesday 11/10/09: All iMovie journals (10), your artist statement, and a completed iMovie rubric must be handed in today by each individual.  You will also present your iMovie with the group and hand in the group's script and storyboard.  We will take our test in the first hour of finals and present the movie projects in the second part of the finals schedule.

Monday 11/9/09: All iMovie projects must be completely edited and handed in to the iMovie folder in the server.  No exceptions.  No excuses. Make sure you compress your movie as a Quicktime file and put the .mov file in the server as well.  Remember to do your journals--today is Journal #10.  Tomorrow you will hand in all ten journals, your artist statement, and a completed iMovie rubric.  You will also present your iMovie with the group.  We will take our test in the first hour of finals and watch the movies in the second part of the finals schedule.

Friday 11/6/09: We continued the iMovie Project.  Remember to do your journals--today is Journal #9.  I have extended the due date!  All work must be handed in on Monday 11/9/2009 by 2:20.  No exceptions.  No excuses.  Be prepared on the finals day to present your iMovie and take a test.

Wednesday 10/28/09: Hand in your PBS’ American Experience: Big Dream Small Screen KWL chart and Questions at the beginning of class TODAY.  We continued the iMovie Project today.  Make sure you remember to do your journals--today is Journal #2.  This is due on Friday October 6, 2009.

Tuesday 10/27/09: Hand in your PBS’ American Experience: Big Dream Small Screen KWL chart and Questions at the beginning of class tomorrow.  We watched the completed Commercial Projects.  We began the iMovie Project today.  This is due on Friday October 6, 2009.

Monday 10/26/09: All Commercial/PSAs must be in the Commercials Folder in the MMstudent server when I come in tomorrow. I'm out at the MCTE Fall Workshop today.  Today you will watch PBS’ American Experience: Big Dream Small Screen.  You will complete a KWL chart and Questions: the K = what you know already and the W = what you want to know before you play the movie.  The L = what you have learned about TV and Philo T. Farnsworth while watching the movie.  Complete the worksheet questions and turn these in at teh beginning of class tomorrow.

Friday 10/23/09: The Commercial/PSA must be finished at the end of class today.  Please follow the directions on the orange sheets on the wall in the TV Studio computer lab for directions on importing your tapes.  Please save your commercial iMovie to the Commercials Folder in the MMstudent server before you leave class today.  Mr. Sieling (the Media Director) will be around in the Media Center and TV Studio if you need help importing footage.  If you need help editing you can go to www.atomiclearning.com or look online at http://www.apple.com/support/ilife/tutorials/imovie/

Thursday 10/22/09: We continued the Commercial/PSA.  Students should finish taping and importing, as well as begin editing today.  This project is due with complete storyboards and scripts before you leave class this Friday.

We continued the Commercial/PSA.  Students should begin videotaping and editing today.  This project is due with complete storyboards and scripts before you leave class on Friday.

Tuesday 10/20/09:
We continued the Commercial/PSA.  Students should have storyboards finished by the end of class today.  Please hand in any late work.

Monday 10/19/09: We began discussing the Commercial/PSA Instructions and groups were assigned for the project.

Tuesday 10/13/09: Camera Shots and Angles quiz was taken at the beginning of class.  We watched and graded the  News Brief Your News Analysis was due today.  We began discussing the Commercial/PSA Instructions.

Monday 10/12/09: We finished taping the News Brief live.  Your News Analysis is due tomorrow.  Don't forget.  This assignment is worth 50 points.  We will have a quiz tomorrow on Camera Shots and Angles.

Friday 10/2/09: The Commercial Analysis is due today.  Now, you need to watch the TV news and complete the News Analysis.pdf at home and on your own by Tuesday, October 13th.  You will have time on Monday to retrieve your picture and audio files from the Gold Lab.  Your iMovies should be nearly complete by now.  You must have them totally completed, saved as iMovie files (so I can check them off) and shared as Quicktime files in the Slideshow folder on the server by next Friday, October 9th.  We began discussing and planning the News Brief project that will take all next week. 

Thursday 10/1/09:
Students should be nearly finished with their  iMovie Slideshow project today.  Please remember that your Commercial Analysis is due tomorrow.

Wednesday 9/30/09: You should have a CD and some pictures that are appropriate for school so we can begin the iMovie Slideshow project today.  You may also need headphones.   Please remember that your Commercial Analysis is due on Friday.

Tuesday 9/29/09: We watched and graded the In-Camera Project today.  For tomorrow: Please remember to bring in a CD and some pictures so we can begin the iMovie Slideshow project.  You need pictures and a song that are appropriate for school. You may also need headphones.   Please remember that your Commercial Analysis is due on Friday.

Monday 9/28/09: Guest speaker today. For tomorrow: Please remember to bring in a CD and some pictures so we can begin the iMovie Slideshow project that you will work on alone.  You need at least ten pictures and a song that are appropriate for school. We will watch and grade the In-Camera Project tomorrow.  Please remember that your Commercial Analysis is due on Friday.

Friday 9/25/09: The In-Camera Project is due at the end of class today.  Please remember to bring in a CD and some pictures next Tuesday so we can begin the iMovie Slideshow project that you will work on alone.  You need at least ten pictures and a song that is appropriate for school.

Tuesday 9/22/09: After doing a practice Storyboard as a class, we talked about the Commercial Analysis, which is due Friday, October 2nd.  Remember to give me the commercial on a VHS tape, CD, or memory stick.  You may also email me at eboeser@bloomington.k12.mn.us, and please make sure the link you send is a working URL.  Include your first and last name in the email so I know who sent the email.  We also began the In-Camera Project today.

Monday 9/21/09: I was gone today, but you had a sub.  You should have had time to briefly study your Camera Shots and Angles for your first quiz today.  Next you should have watched Understanding: Television and completed the Understanding TV worksheet, which is due tomorrow.  We will begin the In-Camera Project tomorrow. 

Friday 9/18/09: As a class we watched the Interview Projects today. Students were given peer review sheets and asked to score themselves and their peers, as well as give some constructive criticism and praise for the projects.  These Interview Peer Grade Sheets are due, along with Interview Notes and Interview Instructions at the end of class.  We discussed Storyboarding as well as began discussing the In-Camera Project.  Study your Camera Shots and Angles. You will have your first quiz on Monday 9/21.

Thursday 9/17/09: We continued the Interview Project today. Students should familiarize themselves with the equipment and finish at least two more interviews today.  I will begin importing and saving the interviews as Quicktime files.

Monday 9/14/09: Hand in your Comparing Interview Styles, your Parent Letter should be signed and also have a mini DV tape, a note or $5.00 today.  We began the Interview Project today. 

Friday 9/11/09: We finished watching interview styles with Connie Chung and Michael Moore to start class today and answered questions, which are due on Monday. We continued our notes on Camera Shots and Angles and began taking notes and ideas for the Interview Project.  Remember to get your Parent Letter signed and also bring a mini DV tape a note or $5.00 by Monday.

Thursday 9/10/09: Your Cultural Literacy Quiz is due today.  We took notes on Camera Shots and Angles to start class today.  We watched different interview styles with Connie Chung and Michael Moore and worked on analyzing shots and angles, which is due on Monday. Remember to get your Parent Letter signed.  Bring a mini DV tape a note or $5.00.

Wednesday 9/9/09: Students handed in their one-page letter about themselves. We recorded a brief interview as a "get to know you" exercise. Remember to get your Parent Letter signed, bring a mini DV tape or $5.00 and complete your Cultural Literacy Quiz.

Tuesday 9/8/09: Class Standards and Parent Letter were handed out.  We looked at a PowerPoint of Course Expectations and Examples of projects students have done in the past.  Make sure you write a one-page letter about yourself for tomorrow's activities.  Get your Parent Letter signed, bring a mini DV tape or $5.00 and complete your Cultural Literacy Quiz.
