Karp Family Hebrew School

Students at the Karp Family Hebrew School benefit from a wonderful classroom space, small class sizes, and committed teachers who are not just "hired help". The well-rounded curriculum includes:
  • a balance between modern Hebrew and t'filah
  • instruction in Jewish ritual and custom
  • Jewish history ranging from Biblical times to America to the modern state of Israel
  • music, art, and dance
  • an emphasis on Jewish values
  • first-rate Family Education Programs centering around the holiday cycle
Classes take place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.  The Saturday morning classes help to better integrate the Hebrew School and the congregation and provide students a chance to participate in services.  Special school events take place regularly throughout the year.

Here are our plans for the 2009/2010 school year:

Our youngest will work their way through themes such as Jewish ritual objects, holidays, food, Israel, Bible stories, and will even start learning a little Aleph-Bet.

Our intermediate students will get to know Bar Achba, a mousy little fellow to take them through the Jewish year - all in Hebrew.  And in their values lessons, they will learn about the Prophets and Writings.

Our upcoming B'nai Mitzvah class takes a tour through Medieval and modern Jewish history, coupled with an in depth study of the Amidah and the values contained therein.

Our confirmation class will study Jewish literature and theater and various "hot topics."  And there will be regular opportunities to to just hang out and socialize.

Field trips to places like the Maryland Museum of Jewish History in Baltimore, the Ratner Bible Museum, and the Matzah Factory are all part of the experience.
