This guide describes the Transmission of Divine Light 

for those who are new to it.

What does Light Transmission mean and what is it for?

During the Light Transmission* you receive the blessing of the Divine Light, which is transmitted through Mirabai. This transmission of the Divine Light activates your own dormant spiritual energy. This accelerates the soul's evolution, transmutes karma, purifies the body and subtle centers and activates and awakens your true Divine Nature. It has often been described as one candle lighting another. Light Transmission does not tie or bind you to Mirabai in any way. It is a gift, freely given regardless of belief, creed, or walk of life.

*This transmission is occasionally referred to using the Sanskrit word “shaktipat.” Light Transmission should not be confused   with a specific initiation performed in certain Yogic lineages.

What happens during the Light Transmission?

Mirabai will touch the point between your eyebrows with sacred ash (called vibhuti) and transmit Divine Light into you. Light Transmission accelerates your spiritual evolution by removing internal blocks, negative patterns and purifying the energy centers of the body.  Light Transmission does not tie or bind you to Mirabai in any way. It is a gift, freely given regardless of belief, creed, or walk of life. It is not the purpose of Light Transmission to replace a person’s personal spiritual or religious practice, only to support a deeper understanding and experience of it.

How do I prepare?

• Please maintain silence or participate in the chanting of mantras during the program to preserve the meditative atmosphere.

• Please prepare yourself before coming up by sitting in silence. Allow yourself to let go and release all your problems and burdens. Try to make yourself empty and witness everything that arises for you during your time in Mirabai's presence.

• You may also bring a photo, mala (prayer beads), shawl or jewelry (washed in water) to darshan to be blessed by Mirabai. There are items available in the bookstore as well.

• When receiving the Divine Light Transmission, please form a line as directed and come forward quietly. When it is your turn for darshan, please step up quickly. After receiving the Divine Light, you will be handed blessed food called “prasad.”

• It is recommended that you remain in silence and enter into meditation for at least 15 minutes, allowing yourself to fully absorb the experience.

• If you have a contagious virus such as a cold or flu, please refrain from coming up for Light Transmission. We ask that you tune into the energy from your seat to receive healing and blessings. People have often reported having healing experiences in this manner.
