MIP Release Party

On Friday, November 13th, University of Pittsburgh students got a first hand look at the 2010 conference at the Minorities in Pittsburgh (MIP) Release Party. This event was a great way for members of the Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association (RCMBA) as well as other students to register for the Minorities in Pittsburgh Conference held in January.

The first half-hour allowed students to get acclimated. This was a great opportunity for mingling and networking over a variety of food offerings. Following this, students participated in several ice breakers such as the diversity scavenger hunt where students attempted to seek out others who had a wide array of characteristics. Reed Speegle, a member of the MIP committee said, “This game was a great way to get to know some of the members of RCMBA I wouldn’t normally talk to”. In another activity students were challenged to "name that food" from a global offering of cuisines.

Following the icebreakers, a contest was held in which teams had to come up with an idea for an invention. This activity was another great way to get to know other students and build teamwork skills. The activity also forced participants to think in innovative ways. Subsequently, the teams presented their creative inventions to judges. The judges then tallied up the scores and a winner was eventually announced.

The last 15 minutes of the release party were reserved for registration for the conference and answering questions from students about the upcoming event. The MIP Release Party was a great way for RCMBA members and other students to interact with one another. Students were able to truly begin to grasp the vision of this year's Minorities in Pittsburgh Conference and have a good time in the process.
