What is the difference between the C310, C310s, C310x and the C310sx?
-
The C310/C310s have software licensed from Destinator Technologies.
-
The C310x and C310sx have software licensed from I-Go Software.
-
The C310 has 2 Gb of Flash Memory, 64 Mb RAM and has both the US and Canada maps installed.
-
The C310s and C310sx have 512 Mb of Flash, 64 Mb of RAM and have only the Canada map installed, but has the US maps on the DVD. A memory card would be required to install the US maps.
-
The C310x has 1 Gb Flash Memory, 64 Mb RAM and has only US maps installed. The Canadian maps were not included in the original release, but will be included in the update.
* There was a limited number of introductory devices that had 2 Gb of memory installed.
Which SD cards formats are usable?
There are a lot of issues with 4gb cards. For best performance and full use of the 4gb format the 4gb sd cards FAT32!! This does not mean that your card will work. Some cards are just incompatible with Mio devices. That's why i created this little topic.
Look below for cards (not) useable collected by me todate from input given by readers from this site.
I have no means and no intentions to check if all the data provided by others are correct. I have to believe that the info is ok, unless proven otherwise. Therefore i will take no responsibility what so ever, if you bought a card which is not usable for your device. But if you don't get it working, please send me a mail or sign my guestbook and i will correct my list.

Background on SD Memory Card
When writing onto an SD Memory Card, the host product cannot determine the storage conditions inside the card. Due to the nature of flash memory, speed and performance depends on card fragmentation. This means that memory cards are not always able to provide the expected performance required by the host product.
Five Main Features
![]()
![]()
| The SD Memory Card measures a mere 24mm by 32mm by 2.1mm. Its slim, compact design promotes easy handling, an important factor for a "bridge media" which you can move between different appliances. Using decoder software, an SD Memory Card-compatible device can play music, video clips and more without a drive mechanism like those in CD and DVD players. This allows the equipment to be more compact and gives product designers new creative freedom. Reliability is also improved through the elimination of skipping on music files. The miniSDTM Card, measuring 20 x 21.5 x 1.4mm (W x L x T), is also available as smaller factor of the SD Memory Card.

| Small size is not enough. Capacity is equally important. SD Memory Cards are currently available in several capacities, and new 2, 4 and 8GB cards are on the way. This kind of large capacity is essential for use with a variety of digital content types, and especially with high-quality video. | ![]() |
| Increasing data volumes and the increasing range of digital content has created demand for memory cards with higher data transfer rates. | ![]() |
Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM), the copyright protection technology used for the SD Memory Card, is key to enabling a new distribution system for music and other commercial media, because it assures a high level of protection against illegal copying. The technology was developed by 4C (The digital contents copyright protection technology licensing organization of IBM, Intel, Matsushita, and Toshiba.)
Having a proven record in DVD, this protection is enhanced in the SD Memory Card through the use of "key revocation" technology that is built into the card.
The card's control circuitry allows data to be read and written (in its protection area) only when appropriate external devices are detected. A check-out (copying) from a PC to the SD Memory Card is restricted to 3 copies in compliance with the SDMI specification. All SD-Audio products comply with SDMI.
The SD Memory Card copyright protection function has the following features:
| Access to the SD Memory Card must be enabled by authentication between devices | |
| A random number is generated each time there is mutual authentication and exchange of security information |
What is an SDIO Card?
SDIO (Input/Output) card is an interface that extends the functionality of devices with SD card slots. A variety of SDIO cards are being developed, such as a Camera, Bluetooth®, GPS, and 802.11b.
With SDIO cards, new functions such as Digital TV Tuner, wireless LAN 802.11b, FM Radio etc. are added to host devices equipped with SD card slots.
Of course, the host device for the SDIO Card will also be able to use the SD Memory Card.
About the miniSD™ Card
The miniSD™ card was developed to meet industry demands for downsizing mobile phones. It is only 37% the volume of an SD Memory Card. Despite its tiny size, the miniSD™ card offers all the benefits of the original SD Memory Card, including copyright protection. By inserting the miniSD™ card into the miniSD™ adapter, you can share a variety of digital data among standard SD-enabled products.

About SD Speed Class
![]()
The SD Card Association (SDA) has established a new specification rating the minimum data transfer both SD/SDHC Memory Cards and SD/SDHC host products.
|
With the new Speed Class specifications, the host product can check the fragmented state in the card and calculate the write speed in each part of the card. The host can then determine where to write the data according to its speed requirement.
| ||||||||||||
|
The SDA has specified operating conditions for SDHC Memory Cards that guarantee the minimum speed according to the card's speed class. Class logos are used to identify cards that comply with these specifications.
