Conditions for adopting system of Deep-hole Blasting and / or working opencast mines with the help of Heavy Machinery for Digging, Excavation and Removel of Coal / Ore etc.
Height and Width of Benches
  1. The height of the benches in overburden, orebody/ coal, or other rock formation shall not be more than the height of the boom of the machines used for digging, excavation or removal. However, in case of uniformity soft rocks, the Regional Inspector may permit the extension of the height of the bench to be upto 3 m above the height of the boom.
  2. The width of the widest machine plying on the bench plus dumper. or the height of the bench, Whichever is more or unless otherwise permitted by the Regional Inspector by an order in writing, 5 times the length of the largest machine working on the bench. As the final operation, the width of a bench may be reduced to not less than 3 m.
  3. Quarrying operation shall be conducted from top downwards when persons are employed within 5m
