About the Band: So, there used to be this band... The Mimsies. They were an awesome rock band from Norman, Oklahoma. Read the story here. About this Site: Chapter One: the "semi-official" staus I once mentioned to the lead singer, Casey, that I'd help her redesign and maintain the website (mimsies.com) that I'm pretty sure she made and maintained herself. She said she'd love for me to help, but we never got around to connecting on it. I told her I was thinking of making a fansite, and from that she asked me to start doing some P.R. stuff, on a fan level, for them (like, official fan club & website kinda thing). Then the band dissolved. So, I was dispatched to do this, and I'm doing it several years late, but it's not really... official, entirely. About this Site: Chapter Two: data loss I used to have their whole website archived on my computer (since I was working with designs and stuff), and I always meant to make a fansite. Unfortunately, I came home one day to find my hard drive corrupted (why, to this day, is a thing of mystery and conspiracy theories), I had very little files backed up before that incident (because, archive.org had them anyway, right?). So, yeah... the files are almost gone and then archive.org drops their copies, too (why, again, I'm unsure). A lot of what this site is made of is either found (mostly from google.com), miraculously backed up, or rediscovered ("Hot damn! I didn't know THESE files were on this CD!"). I'm also inviting any fans to help me out here by scanning their wares, making stuff, or adding to the heap somehow. So, shockingly, there is a chance of updated stuff on a defunct band. About this Site: Chapter Three: Server Change So, this site was at GooglePages, which allowed you to use a WYSIWYG editor or, as I did, hand code it and upload. So, this didn't end too well when everything was migrated to GoogleSites. Yeah. So, I'm currently trying to rebuild everything (using the WYSIWYG editor, now, because I fear for the worst). I'll most likely host some things (possibly music files, or image galleries) on other services, even if those services are also attached to Google. Even though it trashed my site, I'm very pro-Google, and very into getting the information out there. If any random fans out there that caught the band on tour (or, at Van's Warped Tour, hometown folks, or whatever) and want to satisfy their curiousity... I really want those people to find me. About this Site: Chapter Four: Band Reunion (Dec. 01 2010) The band just had a reunion show. I did street team work, band promo, handed out flyers, spammed facebook, and the venue was over capacity. People had to wait outsite for people to leave before they could get in. It was one-in-one-out for a while. I was beaming. My sister and I attended the merch table, selling tees that Casey had hand-screened and magnets that John Thomas had made with the album covers on them. We don't know, in the long run, if this was a one time thing... or a true reunion. But we do know that it was a good omen for the band AND this site. Casey unloaded a box of nostalgia on me (which I'll be encoding, photographing, scanning, uploading, etc.), the band officially backs the status of the site (as well as the FaceBook groups, etc. -- so nothing is "semi-official" anymore), and I met a lot of starving Mimsies fans that had their first taste of blood in way too long at the show.
About the Webmaster:
My name is Holly. I saw the Mimsies for the first time at their "Farewell Oklahoma" show. It changed my life. I interviewed Casey for my (now defunct) zine Goin' Sane. I would do ANYTHING to have a copy of that interview back, but it (like most things in my life) was lost/destroyed/unrecoverable. Casey and I became friends after that (even though I never stopped being a total fangirl first and foremost).
