Abbreviations fpdc (front post double crochet) : yarn over (yo), insert hook from front to back and out to the front again, around the post of the dc of the row below, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yo and draw through 2 loops ) twice. dc tog (double crochet together): (yo, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull up through 2 loops) twice, yo and pull up through remaining 3 loops. hdc tog (half-double crochet together): yo, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook on next st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull up through 4 loops on hook. Gauge: 9 dc stitches and 4 dc rows = 2” Notes: 1. Cap is worked in rounds, joined with sl st after each last st. 2. Ch 3 counts as first dc of each round. 3. Crochet in back loops only, except for the fpdc’s. 4. To begin a rnd with dc tog on the next two sts, ch 2 instead of 3, dc on the next st. To end that rnd, sl st to the top of the first dc made. Cap (Note: work the next rnds in back loop only, except for the fpdc's) Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each st, join (24 sts). Rnd 10: (Dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next, dc in next 8 sts, dc and fpdc in next st)6 times, join (120 sts). Rnds 11 - 14: Dc on each dc, fpdc on each fpdc (120 sts). Rnd 15: (Dc tog the next 2 sts, dc in next 8 sts, dc tog next 2 sts, dc in next 7 sts, fpdc in next fpdc) 6 times (108 sts). Rnd 16: (Dc tog the next 2 sts, dc in next 7 sts, dc tog next 2 sts, dc in next 6 sts, fpdc in next fpdc) 6 times (96 sts). Rnd 17 - 20: Ch 1, sc in each st around (96 sts). Rnd 21: Ch 1, ss on both loops on the next 62 scs. Do not fasten off. Brim Note: Brim is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. Ch 2 at beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. Crochet in both loops. Row 1: Join another strand of yarn on the last stitch worked on rnd 21. Row 3 : ch 2, hdc tog next 2 sts, hdc on next 30 sts, hdc tog last 2 sts, turn (32 sts). Row 4 : ch 2, (hdc tog next 2 sts) twice, hdc on next 11 sts, 2 hdc on next hdc, hdc on next 12 hdc, (hdc tog 2sts) twice, turn (29 sts). Row 5: ch 2, hdc tog next 2 sts, hdc on next 12 sts, 2 hdc on next hdc, hdc on next 12 sts, hdc tog last 2 sts, turn (28 sts).
