Basic elements for conversation and phrases will be emphasized at all levels.

Improv Music class by Alana Jacobs: All musical ability levels are welcome; students that play an instrument can bring them, but it is not necessary. The class will focus on the development of musical creativity and improvisation through games and exercises that focus on rhythm, melody, and form and that strengthen listening skills. This class is a lot of fun and is beneficial for developing teamwork and leadership skills as well as allowing the students to explore and develop their creative musical voice.

Photography Class by Megan Thomas: This class will introduce the students to basic technical aspects of point-and-shoot or DSLR cameras, by learning to creatively control manual settings such as white balance, aperture, shutter, ISO, among others settings. Conceptual analysis of the use of light, camera angle, and other compositional aspects of photography will be key aspects of this class. Throughout the class, students will learn about and discuss the history of photography, and influential artists.  Furthermore, the students will produce and present work that will be discussed in a series of critiques conducted by the instructor. During these critiques the students will have the opportunity to discuss the artistic and creative choices that drive their work.  This class will include portrait, documentary and architectural styles of photography.  Required:  a digital camera and cord to download pictures, if you have a DSLR camera you are also welcome to bring to take your pictures during class.

Art Class by Megan Thomas believes that the inspiration and skills to create art can evolve from the study of master artists.  Students in her class will discover.  They will learn about great works of art, why look the way they do, and what motivated the artists to create them.  By studying the process, styles and techniques of great artists, students will learn to implement the basic elements and principles of design to develop skills using a variety of materials.  Based on examples from master artists, her students will create their own works of art.  In doing so, each individual will experience a heightened level of inspiration, creativity, and self-expression.  They will study drawing and watercolor.

Students will become acquainted with the basic structure of an essay and the best way to organize information in a written text and analyze successful essays.  The entire written process including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, writing thesis statements and editing will be analyzed.   Ending with editing and the correction process that will Polish the essay to a stunning finish. All types of essays will be examined; informative, comparison, descriptive, evaluation, narrative and persuasive.  Students will learn commonsense rules for essay writing, incorporate their own style into the essay and possibly have a little fun in the process.

Speech class by Glen Copper- The student will learn to research, organize, and effectively deliver four speeches: 1. An Ice breaker in which the student would write, rehearse and deliver a three minute speech that introduces them to the class. 2. a five minute informative speech, about a topic they find interesting and believe their audience will too. 3. a five minute persuasive speech in which they will convince their audience to act or believe as the speaker does about a topic important to them. 4. A demonstration speech in which the speaker teaches and demonstrates for the audience how to accomplish a valuable task, This speech will employ the use of props and or graphic illustrations.  Through the above projects the student will learn to demonstrate effective use of voice, gesture, timing, research and organizational skills.

Creative Writing by Glen Copper- There is no better way to understand and appreciate literature than by writing yourself! This class will examine the fundamentals of good story writing, discovering what makes writing effective, why, and how to create it yourself. Various styles will be explored including journaling, blogging, poetry, and short stories. As students explore their own writing they will learn the basic elements a writer employs in order to write. Emphasis will be on: consideration on selecting a title and writing a creative and compelling first line, avoiding cliches by thinking of new different ways to describe characters, settings, feelings, etc. Creative Writing provides students with the ability to find not only the right words, but the best words to communicate information, thoughts and feelings.  It is a form of self-expression which increases vocabulary and sentence structure skills; stimulates visualization and consideration of details; promotes organization and arrangement of ideas during the thought process; aids in developing skills and confidence in all forms of writing, from fiction to term papers to job applications.
