SAT Prep Class

SAT PREP CLASS at MHS 2011
 Overview: There are ten sessions, twice a week running two-hours each (First session will be four-hours to do a practice exam; second to last session will be three-hours to take an additional practice test).  These will be scored and the areas of focus will be on the content areas in which each student needs to improve.   Class will meet in room 415 or the library depending on the session. 
Session Dates: September 19, 21, 26, 28 and October 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19 

Session 1 - Practice Test

This will meet in a computer lab and use UDlibsearch practice test 1.  Students will register and create accounts to use the online assessment.  A realistic testing session will occur that is timed.  Students will also record their username and password on a master sheet, so the instructors can log-in to see their results.   

These Sessions will use the Kaplan SAT Book (2011 Edition)

Session 2 Part I: Know the SAT.  Hand out Kaplan books to students.  Review test taking strategies.  Review how the test is set up and scored.  Students will log into The Official SAT Online Course and learn how to use this.  Also students will learn about the SAT resources located on UDLibsearch.   Other web based resources to study will be reviewed as well.  A handout will be provided to show students each of these resources. 

 

SAT BASICS

 
Session ends with a review of the results of their first testing session and an analysis of their strengths and weaknesses.  Groups will be organized and a brief assignment may be given.  

Session 3 PART II: How to attack the Writing Section of the SAT (This will last 1 hour)

Students are divided into small groups to work on math and reading sections of the SAT. Sample items will be reviewed, discussed and taught (This will last 1 hour)

SAT WRITING BASICS

This session will use the Kaplan Books on several occassions.  Please have this out to complete the activities in the presentation. The practice sections for the multiple choice will be assigned for homework.

Session 9  Practice Test (No Writing) This session will start at 5 PM and last until 8 PM. 

Session 10 PART V: Prepare for Test Day Review practice test
