In Memory of Edward F. Scott

Edward and I met on a bike trip in 1973.  We began playing music together the next year, and our close friendship and musical partnership spanned four decades.

In addition to playing music, Edward was a fine photographer and sculptor.  Indeed, he was good at any task he set his mind to, creative and otherwise.

Photos of Michael playing some of Edward F. Scott's guitars

Thanks to the kindness of Edward's family (Chris and Herb, Larry, and Rick and Sue), I inherited a number of Edward's instruments.  Playing them alongside my own instruments makes me feel as though Ed is still around, smiling....

This photo was taken by J. DePrisco at a 2008 benefit
for the Greenwood (PA) Friends School.  I'm playing Edward's
1905 Gibson A-Style Mandolin.  That night I played
only Edward's instruments, in his memory.

This photo, from the same 2008 benefit, features
Edward's 1973 Martin D-12-20.

This photo, from the same benefit show, features
 Edward's 1919 Gibson L-3.

This photo was taken in Edward's living-room in Evanston in December 2006 by Susan Stemont.

The guitar is a 1905 Gibson O Style Artist model that Ed had on long-term loan from his Uncle Michael.
