Welcome to the Mount Holyoke College (MHC) German Studies Symposium web-site! On Thursday, February 23, the MHC German Studies Department will host a symposium entitled "Responses to a Changing World: German Language, Literature, and Culture in the Twenty-First Century." The symposium will start at 7pm. ET and end at 8:30pm. The discussion will be accessible online via live-stream and we cordially invite you to join us online. Instructions on how to access the live-stream are available under "Join Virtual Room" in the left-hand navigation. The symposium continues the panel discussion held under the same title at the 2012 Modern Language Association (MLA) convention in Seattle. In a time that sees and will continue to see significant changes facing our discipline in particular and higher education in general, presenters share their perspectives on how to approach these changes. Presenters at the MLA convention included Corinne Crane, Univ. of Illinois, Urbana; Hiram H. Maxim, Emory Univ.; Mark Lauer, MHC; Marianna V. Ryshina-Pankova, Georgetown Univ., and Susanne Rinner (organizer of the MLA panel), Univ. of North Carolina, Greensboro. Links to the written format of their presentations are provided in the left column. Presenters at the Mount Holyoke College German Studies Symposium include Mary Helen Dupree, Georgetown Univ.; Martin Kagel, Univ. of Georgia; Sara Lennox, Univ. of Massachusetts; Karen Remmler, MHC; Christian Rogowski, Amherst College; and Gabriele Wittig Davis, MHC. Please note that the set-up of the online-stream allows for a total of 100 viewers. Instructions on how to access the live-stream are available under "Join Virtual Room' in the left-hand navigation.. We will go live with the web-room at 6:30pm on February 23rd. Once 100 people have joined us online, additional people will not be able to join in. The web-room will provide a twitter-like tool allowing you to make comments and ask questions during the symposium. Selected questions and comments will be passed on to the presenters for them to address during the symposium. We invite, of course, everybody to join us live and in person at the symposium as well, which will be hosted in the Hooker Auditorium, Mount Holyoke College. Any questions or feedback may be send to Mark Lauer (mlauer@mtholyoke.edu) or Anca Luca Holden (aholden@mtholyoke.edu). We look forward to hearing from you! All the best, Mark Lauer and Anca Luca Holden (symposium organizers) |
