Antics in the Attic
"I'm struck by the insidious, computer-driven tendency to take things out of the domain of muscular activity
and put them into the
domain of mental activity."
(Brian Eno)
About Me
I am a Software Developer at an Internet consulting firm in Virginia. My day job helps support the project studio in my atic. It is stocked with enough tools to allow me to create just about any sound I can imagine. The only sound I can't create is a good vocal. Even though I have perfect pitch, I'm not a singer. That's why I'm so grateful for artists who are releasing stems to the public for remix projects. Please checkout some of my remixes on this MP3 player.
Peter Gabriel Remix Site
When I was a recording engineer at Sound Design in Santa Barbara, I installed a Neve desk that was purchased from Crescent Studios in Bath England. This console was said to have been used by Gabriel.
A couple of years later I went on a pilgrimage to Bath where I had lunch with David Lord who gave me the whole scoop. It was true. The mixer I had painstakingly rewired from British to US standards had in fact been used to mix Gabriel's Security album.
20 years later I remixed Shock the Monkey. Too bad I'm not still working at Sound Design today. Imagine running those tracks through the same console that mixed the original in the 80's!
The contest is over, but I continue to enjoy remixing other artists on the Real World label. One of my remixes made it to #1 in the Top Twenty for January 21, 2007.

Digg this Application
I wrote a Ajax program that makes life easier. It displays one line of RSS news at the bottom of the screen along with the current temperature and the time of day. you can pick any 10 feeds you want.
This little one line website is my window to the world. It's the perfect solution for an RSS junkie like me.
The news stories come from any RSS source you want. I usually display the top stories from digg.com. When the RSS feed is updated, the task bar turns green. I just click on the headline to see the story.
The only downside is that it requires Windows XP. It won't work on Vista. The program runs inside the Windows taskbar, but you don't need to download or install anything. It is actually just a web page that is specially formatted to view inside the taskbar. Try it yourself.
