Tee Selection for 2012

Which Tees to Play?

The overriding objective of the MGA is to have fun. Many of our members have more fun when playing from shorter tees. They are certainly welcome to do so and we encourage it. However, because of the handicap system recommended by the USGA, when players compete from different tees, it is necessary for the committee and the pro shop to know which tees you are playing in order that the score cards can be handicapped properly. MGA members and their tee assignments are listed to the right.

The Texas Golf Association has published a document advising players on which tees to play.  To see this document, click on "Download" in the attachments at the bottom of this page.

Tee Options

For MGA play the following tee options are available.

  • Senior Moorish Tees
    • Blue tees will be played on all holes on the Valleys and Hills and on all holes on the Creeks except 2, 4, 6 & 7 which will be played from the white tees
  • White Tees
    • White tees will be played on all holes
  • Green Tees
    • Green tees will be played on all holes

Handicap Adjustments

For all MGA events, every player's handicap is adjusted for the tees played according to Section 3-5 of the USGA Handicap Manual.  A player's full handicap will be adjusted as follows:

 Course Sr Moorish   White  Green
 V-H 0 -2 -4
 H-C 0 -1 -4
 C-V 0 -2 -5

Competition

  • Whenever possible, MGA events will be flighted according to the tees played.
  • Some formats may use combined tees (A-B-C teams, and some less common formats).
  • In Pick-2-Partners events, the three partners will play whichever tees they play in other events.

Guidelines...

  • Frequent tee-switching is discouraged.
  • Generally, players should play the tees they play in normal everyday play.
  • If circumstances require a player to change to a different tee, he may do so by informing either the pro-shop, or a member of the tournament committee at least one-day prior to an MGA event.
  • New members may switch tees once they have determined their comfort level on the course.
  • See the "Ringer Tournament" page for separate rules for The Ringer Tournament tee switching.
