What is the Comanche Trace MGA?

The Comanche Trace Men's Golf Association was formed in September 2006 to provide a venue for male golfing members of The Club at Comanche Trace to get together several times a month for some fun and some competitive golf. It is governed by a set of Bylaws written by an elected board and approved by the membership.  To view these bylaws, go to the attachments at the bottom of this page and click on Download for CT MGA Bylaws.

In accordance with the MGA Bylaws, each year a nominating committee is formed to nominate officers for the following year.  Elections are held at the Annual Fall Meeting.  Officers for 2010 are:

Office
Name
  President    John Harrison
  Vice President
   Len (Scotty) Scott
  Secretary/Treasurer
   Dave Phelps
  Food/Beverage Coordinator
   Steve Phillips
  Tournament Committee

Beginning in January 2010, annual MGA membership dues are $60. These dues are used to the benefit of the MGA membership for multiple purposes, and may include:

  • Providing refreshments during or after Saturday MGA events
  • Additional prizes for certain selected MGA events
  • Special prizes to be awarded at the annual MGA Banquet
  • Other expenditures as determined by the MGA Board

Golf Events

The MGA organizes regularly scheduled golf events on three Wednesdays and one Saturday each month (with a few exceptions).  A schedule for the year can be found on the 2010 Calendar of Events.

Annual MGA Banquet

Each year, on the first Saturday of December, the MGA organizes the Annual MGA Banquet for members and their guests.  At the banquet, special accomplishments by players during the year will be recognized.

Unlike previous years, beginning in 2010, attendees will be asked to pay a negotiated price for themselves and their guest.

Wednesday Golf

The MGA has scheduled events on selected Wednesdays and one Saturday each month.  The format for the first Wednesday is standard, while the formats for the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays vary.  Occasionally, due to course conditions or other factors, the "Wednesday Game" may be played on another day of the week, or even at another club.

Starting times are 9:00 during the warm months (April - November) and 10:00 during the colder months (December - March).  Entry fee for the Wednesday events is typically $10 per player.

Saturday Golf

In addition to the weekly Wednesday events, the MGA also sponsors one Saturday event per month.  The format of these events is different each month, and is usually different from the Wednesday events.

Starting times are 9:00 during the warm months (April - November) and 10:00 during the colder months (December - March).  Entry fee for the Saturday events is typically $20 per player.

Red Blue Tournament

The Red Blue Tournament is a Ryder Cup-type event.  This tournament honors members who have passed away, and American soldiers and first responders who fight and die for our country.

President's Cup

The President's Cup is a match play event played over several weeks during the summer.  Players are put into flights of 8 according to their handicaps.  this is a double-elimination tournament.

MGA Championship

The MGA Championship is an individual stroke play tournament played each year in October.  The event is flighted by handicap, with flight winners, plus an overall gross and net champion.  The overall champions will have their names engraved on a plaque displayed in the Comanche Trace clubhouse.  The 2009 Gross and Net Champions were Todd Ezell and Ray Wilson respectively.

Other Golf Activities

In addition to the regularly scheduled Wednesday and Saturday events, their are two other types of golf activities that are planned each year.

MGA Play Away Days

Occasionally, the club may be closed for maintenance, or may be in such a condition that we do not want to play.  For example, if the greens are aerated on Tuesday, we may not want to play on that Wednesday.  In those cases, the MGA may schedule an event at another area course within easy driving distance.

 Ringer Tournament

The MGA conducts a year-long Ringer Tournament in which the best score you shoot on each hole during the year is used to calculate your "Ringer" score.
