Musicals are known today as a classic, fun to watch, and maybe made for a bit of the older generation. However this is not the case for these musicals that we have picked out. The songs in these movies make it so interesting and easy to follow storylines plus they are fun to sing along to. We hope you enjoy these next selections that we have made and that they encourage you to spontaneously start singing the songs yourself.

Singing in the Rain” sung by Gene Kelly- Singing in the Rain

Gene Kelly is absolutely brilliant in his portrayal of Don Lockwood. His voice is so clean and appealing it makes it a joy to watch the movie. The scene where Don sings the song “Singing in the Rain” is one of the most memorable scenes is Hollywood. Who doesn’t love splashing around the street and jumping in every puddle. This scene makes it almost impossible to not belt out and sing every time it rains, making it one of the most memorable scenes from the movies.

"You're Off to See the Wizard" Sung by The King's Men Octet, the Debutantes, Billy Bletcher, Pinto Colvig, J. D. Jewkes,
Abe Dinovitch, Betty Rome, Carol Tevis, Lois Clements  Zari Elmassien, Nick Angelo, Robert Bradford, and Virgil Johansen (dubbing the Munchkins)

It is hard to pinpoint one song in particular for the movie Wizard of Oz that is most memorable however we went with the one that is most sung by people all across the world. “We’re Off to See the Wizard” is so imbedded in the American mind. Quite often you can find yourself humming that familiar tune, either while your linked arm and arm with someone or you on a mission to go to some destination.  Dorothy, the Lion, the Tinman, the Scarecrow, and Toto make such an unusual bunch of friends however they manage to capture the audiences hearts with all the hardships that they go through. The song “Were off to see the Wizard” brings hope to these characters that they can finally achieve there dreams.

The Sound of Music” sung by Julie Andrews- The Sound of Music

When you think “Sound of Music” one automatically pictures the scene where Maria, Julie Andrews, is spinning around singing the song “The Sound of Music”. It is a breathtaking view that captures the attention of the audience making it one of the most memorable opening scenes in movie history.  Maria, a nun who leaves the convent to become a governess of seven rambunctious children, incorporates music into the lives of the children helping unite the family for the first time since their mother has passed away.  The movie “Sound of Music” makes it sad to think that Hollywood doesn’t produce movies in this way anymore. The scenery, romanticism, costumes, and of course songs are what make this musical unforgettable.

Mary Poppins (1964 sung by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke),  “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Once again Julie Andrews has captured the hearts of America with her portrayal of a nanny who has magically appeared to watch over two children who need some looking after. Her voice is unforgettable and the song choices are so appealing to the family. One of the most fun songs to sing in the movie is “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. The scene is hilarious to watch especially watching Dick Van Dyke’s character Bert. Mary Poppins is one of those musicals that you can watch over and over again and never get bored of the characters and songs. It has gone down in the history books as one of the most memorable movies in history.

You’re the One that I Want” sung by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John- Grease 1978

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John make the perfect couple as Sandy and Danny. Sandy a goody good goes on vacation and winds up meeting a summer fling, Danny, whom she thinks is sweet and caring. Jump forward to the beginning of school and we see that Danny is the bad boy of the school who breaks girls hearts while looking good doing it. Sandy finally realizes towards the end of the movie that there is no use in trying to change his bad boy image so she decides to change her image. It is during this scene where we get to hear one of the most memorable songs in the movie. “You’re the One that I Want” is a playful fun song that the audience is able to quickly pick up. By the middle of the song it is hard not to get swept up in the scene and start singing the song. Grease is an upbeat and more generation x friendly and family friendly then some older musicals, which makes it more interesting to watch.
