Writers Guidelines

Mexico Living Guide is a regional English language lifestyle magazine for Mexico – its focus is almost exclusively on living, working and traveling in Northwest Mexico. The magazine was launched in February 2007, and attracts over 120,000 readers annually. 10,000-15,000 copies are printed monthly on full color gloss, and are distributed free at visitor centers, resorts, businesses, and events.

More than half of our readers are visitors from the United States. Local residents make up the other half. They are an educated and affluent audience. Our readers travel, dine out, enjoy the outdoors, entertain, read, and on average spend more.

Writers come in all ages and types and backgrounds. Some make their living as writers; others are teachers, counselors, entrepreneurs, and government officials. More important than journalism experience is knowledge of a subject very well and being able to write clearly about it. We are very open-minded as long as the article idea is interesting and relates to the guide’s overall theme.

Send us a written query about your article idea. Tell us who you (in resume form) are and what kind of article you’d like to write. We’ll let you know if the idea has possibilities. If your article is already written, email it to us. We’ll respond as soon as possible. Email all submissions to: mexicoeditor@gmail.com

Subjects of articles include Travel, Tourism, Real Estate, Building, Construction, Shopping, Dining, Lodging, Mexican Law, Immigration, Health & Medicine, Events, etc. Check out our Back Issues to get a better idea.

In general, we try to help our readers understand the how to live, work, play and invest in Mexico better, to help our readers live better, and to make living and visiting Mexico a better experience.

The guide is published usually the last week of the preceding month. We need completed manuscripts a minimum of three weeks before publication. Thus, an article for the December issue should be submitted by the beginning of November. Include your name, address, and telephone number on the first page of the manuscript. We accept only electronic submissions, either through email or shared Google document. Articles submitted should be in text-only or in Microsoft Word formats.

The length of articles varies depending on the subject and theme. We don't like articles longer than 2000 words or shorter than 250 words.

Our regular payment is 0.10 per word. We pay on what is published, not what is submitted. Again, if you have any doubts or questions, talk to us. We normally don’t pay expenses, but sometimes do when an unusual amount of travel or long-distance calls are involved: Please talk to us first!  Email us to: mexicoeditor@gmail.com

Basically, we buy first world wide serial rights, including rights for publication on our Internet website: mexicoliving.info, mexicolivingguide.com as well as any websites owned or operated by John Benjamin Pack.
