About Donald

Donald Messling has had a passion for riding horses since his Mom put him on the back of the work horses used on the family farm when he was three years old.

After a stint in the military, fighting in Vietnam, he dedicated his life to horses.

He's done a bunch! He started in the rodeo riding rough stock including bucking horses and bulls.

After that, he lived on the road team roping.

In the early eighties, he started learning about cutting from some of the best.

He ended up renting a barn and training out of Columbus, Montana. He trained rope horses and got more involved in cutting.

In 1998, he moved to Toston, Montana. It was there that he met artist, Carol Zirkle. Together, they built a facility designed specifically to train horses to work cows. They have focused on making a place that is safe and effective for horses and riders alike.

Donald is a trainer/member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the Montana Cutting Horse Association.
