AERO ENGINES CARLISLE

Aero-engines Carlisle is a "Society for the Preservation of World War 2 Aero Engines" and seeks, in a small way, to inspire young people to become the engineers of the future.

Aero-engines Carlisle was founded by Peter Grieve with Robin Byers, Bill Richards and Terry Jones as founding members.

Aero-engines Carlisle seeks to achieve its mission in the following ways:-

By restoring aero-engines to running order.
By giving the public, at air shows and other venues, the opportunity to enjoy the sight, sound, smell and feel of aero-engines.
By restoring aero-engines for static display in museums.
By assisting others who share these same objectives
By being a member of the British Aviation Preservation Council.

The members of Aero-engines Carlisle are primarily concerned with the practical issues concerned with achieving its mission. The administration of Aero-engines Carlisle is therefore “light weight” with the majority of its assets remaining the private property of its members
.
Currently Aero-engines Carlisle members have three Rolls-Royce Merlins, one Rolls-Royce Griffon, a Alvis Leonides, a Bristol Hercules 264, a Rolls-Royce Welland jet engine all restored to running order. These engines are regularly displayed throughout the UK. A further Leonides has been restored for static display in the Solway Aviation Museum and a static Merlin display prepared for the Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum. Work is currently under way to restore to running order a further Merlin, and a Jumo 211

Aero-engines Carlisle is also able to provide a limited advice, literature, lecturing, service to others who share the same objectives.
