Check there for all family updates, photos, videos and more!Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - Visiting Virginia! The church in Virginia called last night (about a week earlier than expected). When Alan saw the number (couldn't answer because he can't talk on his cell at work) he thought it was a no-go since they were calling back so soon. He stole away to the bathroom for a couple minutes to listen to the message and only got as far as the first little bit to hear that they wanted him to visit! He called me after that (still from the bathroom!) to tell me the exciting news. On his way home he listened to the whole message and it turns out he is one of 2 candidates they are bringing out for a visit and they want me (Meredith, in case you didn't know who was typing... ;-) to come too. We're very excited. They gave Alan a choice of 3 dates - June 22, 29 or July 6. We've chosen June 29 - the weekend of Alan's birthday. Alan's just waiting to hear back from the church representative to finalize the plans and get the details and logistics worked out. I think the other guy was given different dates to choose from and I really think we're probably visit #2 since they want someone in place by August 1st. They told Alan that they hope to make a decision basically at the end of the second visit. There's plenty to speculate about, but I won't :). We're really excited at what God is doing here. Even if Alan doesn't get the job it's been really good going through this process. We have both been very impressed with this church and their process and are excited to see what happens next :). Thank you for all of your prayers! We can feel them. And in other news... we're moving again on Saturday. This time to the studio off campus where we definitely won't be longer than the end of the summer but hopefully we'll be out of Mass sooner than that... Monday, June 9, 2008 - Another UpdateAlan's interview was last night and was a little over an hour long. We spent the half hour before the phone call in prayer and hope and pray that the church folk did too. Overall Alan said it went well. As more time passes since the interview I think he gets more and more critical of his own performance. Today he said to me, "I definitely didn't get the job..." I'm going to go with what he said last night, though, and assume that they did indeed get a small picture of the real Alan and it is in the Lord's hands. We have been very impressed with the process the church is taking and are confident that the person whom they choose - whether Alan or someone else - is the one God indeed desires to be there. Keep praying as we continue the process with the VA church and dive more deeply into the process with the IL church.
Meredith Friday, June 6, 2008 - Interview UpdateAlan's interview with the church in Virginia will be Sunday night at 8pm ET. If you get a chance prayer would be much appreciated. Alan gets the sense that this is the last step (or very close to it) before they bring someone out to the church to meet people and do the candidating process which he believes will only be for the one guy that they plan to hire. Please pray as this process comes to a close, that God's will be done in our lives and that the folks at this church use God's wisdom and not their own to discern the right man for the job. The questionnaire for the other job is due on Wednesday so we should know more about the process for that position in the next couple of weeks. Thursday, June 5, 2008 - Transition, Transition and more Transition!!Several folks have been asking about what we're doing and where we're going and where they can send birthday gifts and things for Adeline and Alan. The best place to send anything at this point is at GCTS, 130 Essex Street, Box 74-A, South Hamilton, MA 01982. This is, for all intents and purposes our "permanent address" while we still live in MA because Meredith will still have a job there until we go. Thank you so much for your generosity. It really helps us to feel that love right now from all of you so far away during all of this up in the air time. Also, some of you may know Alan is applying for jobs. He was supposed to have a phone interview with a church in Virginia last night but it was postponed due to the tornadoes rolling through there. It will likely be Saturday now. Keep him, the church, and all of us in your prayers as we go through transition and seek to discern God's will for our lives. Love to you all! Saturday, May 31, 2008 - We're Moving!!!We're moving to yet another apartment within our building :). We've now lived in 303 and 305, and tomorrow we will live in 304! This is just a temporary move until an off-campus apartment we are moving to is ready for us. June 14th our address will change again so keep checking back for updates :). If you want to mail us anything, however, the best place to send it is actually to the GCTS general address, care of PO Box 74-A or you could send it to the Doctor of Ministry Office. We'll let you know when we have our new place (and even then it's actually only till the end of the summer so make sure you write all of these in your address book in pencil :). And... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEGAN! My sister is 30 today :). Tuesday, May 27, 2008 - Ergo Baby CarrierHey Moms! Win an awesome Ergo Baby Carrier by clicking on this link. Good luck! Sunday, April 27, 2008 - We're Going to California! We got our tickets for California for the summer yesterday. We'll be there from Tuesday, July 29th to Tuesday, August 5th. We'll be in Arroyo Grande for most of the trip for a friend's wedding that Saturday. Hope to see at least some of you!

Thursday, January 31, 2008 - Blog TagSo apparently I've been tagged... Here are the rules: 1. Link to the person that tagged you (Megan) and post the rules on your blog. 2. Share 5 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
3. Share the five top places on your "want to see or want to see again" list.
4. Tag a minimum of five random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment in their blog. Thursday, December 20, 2007 - No More MySpaceLately I have been getting a lot of requests to approve inappropriate comments on my MySpace page from hackers masquerading as the friends on my site. Yesterday was the last straw when I received a request to approve a very inappropriate video. Therefore I have canceled my MySpace page because I will not tolerate the lack of security and risk this poses to myself and especially my family. If you have pictures of our family, especially pictures of Adeline, on your MySpace, PLEASE DELETE THEM IMMEDIATELY!! Thank you for your understanding. This website is the best place to learn the latest about what's going on with us and see pictures. Friday, December 7, 2007 - Australian BibleSo this year the staff at Gordon-Conwell are having a door-decorating contest and the theme is Joy to the World. The Doctor of Ministry Office (where I work) is putting up pictures of our international students and we emailed them to ask them to send us their favorite Christmas carol or phrase from a Christmas carol to put up on our door in their native language (it's really starting to look cool - when it's done I'll post a picture). So we received dozens of emails in return, one of which was from an Australian student we have. Knowing his native language is more or less the same as ours, he decided to share something a little different... Luke 2:8-21 from the Australian translation of the Bible: "Newsflash: There were drovers camped out in the paddock nearby keeping a eye on their mob of sheep that night. Their eyes shot out on stalks when an Angel of the Lord zapped into view and the glory of the Lord filled the air like 1,000 volts. The angel said: 'Stop looking like a bunch of stunned mullets. Let me give you the drum.'" I hope you enjoyed it as much as we in the office did! :) Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - A Message from AdelinePlease see our videos page for an important message from Adeline. Monday, November 26, 2007 - Wishlist UpdatedOur wishlist is more up to date now for the holidays. It does change periodically, but it is the best place to find our needs and wants in a variety of price ranges. Meredith and Adeline have amazon.com wishlists to look at as well. The links can be found on our wishlist page. Please note that Adeline does not need any clothes, besides some solid white onesies. Thursday, November 22, 2007 - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - Meredith's Birthday DriveAs promised, here are some pictures from the drive we took on my birthday (10/21). Adeline was sleeping, that's why she isn't in the one with Alan and me. Also, check out the California Trip page again as I've posted more pictures of our visit to Arroyo Grande, courtesy of Jay :). Enjoy! Wednesday, October 10, 2007We are canceling our home phone service as of tomorrow, October 11, so in order to reach us you will need to call our cell phones. If you do not have our cell phone numbers, email us and we will give them to you. Friday, September 28, 2007 - New PageI've started a new page for the trip that Adeline and I took to California last week. There are TONS of pictures I want to post, so it will be a while before it is all up, but check back soon. It's coming! ;-) Friday, September 7, 1007 - It's Up!The Red Sox Game page is up and full of pictures for your viewing pleasure! Wednesday, September 5, 2007 - Red Sox GameI've created a new page for all the Red Sox Game pix. All pix will be posted soon. They ARE coming!! :) Sunday, September 2, 2007 - We Were There!!!Yes, we were at the Red Sox game against the Orioles when Clay Buchholz, 23-year-old rookie pitcher for the Sox, pitched his first no-hitter in the second game of his major league career. It was so exciting!!! It is hard not to instantly become an avid Red Sox fan when you go to see a game at Fenway Park. The Park is so small and intimate. We were in the cheap nose-bleed seats and they were still way way WAY closer than the cheap nose-bleed seats we've been in before at Angels and Dodgers games in California (granted the "cheap seats" at Fenway still cost 3 times as much as the cheap seats in Anaheim and Dodger Stadiums!). Everything went so smoothly and Adeline was a real trooper! She only fussed a little a couple of times even with all of the crazy noise around her. There was so much screaming and whistling and loud music at the end, but she did so well. Her first baseball game was one that made history! So cool. We took the T in from a station near home so we didn't have to drive. The trick to always getting a seat on the subway is to have a baby strapped to you! I wore Adeline in the Baby Bjorn for all of the traveling and it was amazing to see all the crazy manly sports fans giving up their seats for us! Many graciously gave up their seats for Johanna as well, seeing she was quite pregnant :). The camaraderie of Red Sox Nation I think really helps with this, too. It's a completely different side of New England, and one that everyone who visits here should experience. Thanks, Mom and Dad, for giving Megan and me that experience when we were kids, even though we didn't know it! :) Before the game we went to this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place a few blocks down from Fenway called El Pelon Taqueria. It was so good to have some authentic Mexican food again! Delicious! We then walked to the Park and entered on Yawkey Way, the street they close 5 hours before game time and reopens two hours before game time to ticket-holders only. What a crazy place! After the game fans were dancing in the streets and the sausage and hot dog vendors were still selling food at an amazing rate. I hate to think of the stomach issues people who ate kielbasa at 11pm last night are having today! All in all it was such an amazing time and it was so fun to share it with Nathan and Johanna and their baby (due at the end of the month :). We were exhausted, and still are!, but wouldn't trade the experience for anything! What a rush! ;-) Pictures to follow soon! Tuesday, August 14, 2007 - The SoxWe're going to a Red Sox game!! We've been wanting to go ever since we've been here but have never had the time or money to go (tix are pretty pricey...). Last week Alan's work announced that they had bought 110 tickets for the Sox vs. the Orioles on September 1st and they would be selling them for $20 a piece - you could buy up to 4. We decided this would be a great way to celebrate our anniversary, so we're going with our friends, Nathan and Johanna, to the game. It is so exciting! Fenway, here we come! ;-) Wednesday, 7/25/2007 - Fun with FriendsLast Saturday, the 21st, Alan, Adeline, and I went out to eat at Unos with some friends. Our friend Joshua took these pictures... *From top to bottom: Alan (Nathan is on his cell phone); Jon; Meredith and Alan; Nathan and Johanna; Troy. Joshua also took pictures of Adeline. You can see them on her web page. You can see more of Joshua's pictures on his photo blog at http://withwhatlightwehave.blogspot.com. Thursday, 6/28/2007 - She's Here!First of all, Happy Birthday, Alan! :) Secondly, our little girl arrived on Saturday night, June 23, 2007, at 11:44pm. Her name is Adeline Elizabeth. She was 7 lbs., 3 oz., and 19" long. For more details, including pictures and the labor story click here, or click the Adeline Elizabeth link at left. Sunday, 5/27/2007 - Last HurrahSo Alan and I have decided that this week will be the "last hurrah" week. That doesn't mean that after this week we'll do nothing but sit on our tushies and wait around for contractions to start, but we're getting it into our heads that this will be our last intentional week of doing lots of fun stuff together and with friends before our little girl comes and we're exhausted all the time for some weeks. So, last Friday night (2 days ago), we went to see Spiderman 3 with some friends. Then you can read all about our fun adventures from yesterday in my pregnancy journal. The cookout was fun by the way, and a good hang out time with a fun group of folk. Today, we woke up early to go to the 9am service at Christ Church which is the more contemporary, family service (usually we go to the 11am Solemn Liturgy service). It was like a whole different church! Today was the celebration of Pentecost so they gave out red, orange, and yellow balloons to symbolize the tongues of fire. It was so cool to see all these balloons of all different heights around the room. After church we grabbed a quick lunch with friends and went to see Pirates of the Caribbean, At the World's End, at 11:30am. It turns out our local theater does $5 movies before noon on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays! We never knew! So we both saw Pirates this morning for the same price that one ticket would be just about any other time. Kinda cool :). This afternoon I slept while Alan read. Tonight we have our regular Sunday night dinner with friends. We don't have any fun plans for tomorrow, Memorial Day, but it will be nice to sleep in and then do something fun together. The rest of the week of course we will both work. Then on Friday evening, we're going to take a road trip down to Plymouth (about an hour and a half south) to go to Red Robin. It is one of the favorite restaurants of some of our friends and we were thrilled to learn recently that there was one so close - well, closer than any of us thought! So we're taking a little road trip for some good burgers (actually, I'll probably have a salad) on Friday night and it should be fun. With that, June will be ushered in and Alan and I will go about our daily lives till they're interrupted by labor! Watch the pregnancy journal for more updates. Saturday, 5/26/2007 - GraduationHere are some pix from graduation on May 12, 2007 courtesy of Grandmother. Thanks, Grandmother! Thursday, 2/22/2007 - Job UpdateWell, thanks to some good timing and a solid recommendation from a friend, Alan begins a new job on Monday!! His last day at UPS is Friday (tomorrow) and he begins working 27 hours a week at Christian Book Distributors on Monday morning at 9am. You can reach him at this number ;-): Next week he has training all week and so will have to miss some classes. Pray that his profs are understanding and Alan doesn't get behind. Also, it is looking promising for me to maintain a position in the Doctor of Ministry Office come May. God is so good! It is such a blessing that this uncertainty did not drag on for weeks, or even months as we feel it has in the past. Thank you for your fervent prayers in this. We can feel God working. |
