Classical Piano Lineage

It is especially important in music and art, to study with the right teacher.    Mitch has had quite a few teachers and values all of them.   Some attended prestigious conservatories such as Julliard and studied with famous teachers such as Nadia Boulanger and Rosina Lhevinne.  However, it is when Mitch found his master teacher, Philip Lorenz, that his musical expertise and understanding was elevated to the highest level.    Mitch studied with professor Lorenz for eight years, and was completely transformed as a musician.  Here is the lineage of teachers Mitch became a part of when he studied with his mentor, Lorenz:
  • Joseph Haydn taught Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Beethoven taught Karl Czerny
  • Czerny taught Franz Liszt  (perhaps the greatest pianist who ever lived)
  • Liszt taught Martin Krause
  • Krause taught Claudio Arrau (one of the greatest pianists of the last 100 years)
  • Arrau taught Philip Lorenz (along with Garrick Ohlsson, Ena Bronstein, Ruth Nye and other great pianists)
  • Lorenz taught Mitchell Odom
  • Odom is teaching another generation of pianists in Mercer Island, WA
Mitchell Odom's qualifications:
