 The Metropolitan Academy of Music in Mercer Island, Washington was founded by Mitchell Odom in 2009, but it had been a school in the making for several years.
The academy began as a school for piano students of all ages. Our curriculum varies, but we currently offer piano lessons and drum lessons. We teach music lessons in many styles, from classical to pop, rock, blues, jazz, country, gospel, broadway show tunes and other types of music. We also teach students how to understand and compose their own music.
We are a performance academy so we train our students not only to play, but how to get up in front of an audience and perform with confidence. We give student concerts and recitals in the spring and fall. All students are encouraged to participate. We have separate recitals for our adult students, which are informal. Adult students are not required to perform, but we encourage it so that you can learn to play for others.
Our teachers are excellent and experienced, and we invest our efforts for each student's success.

Our belief is that music lessons should be interesting, rewarding and fun! We will teach you how to play the music you want to play, and to play it well and enjoy learning. We use positive teaching techniques and teach you how to practice to achieve the best results from your music lessons.
