Who and what is Mystic Melody Siberians?

A person who breeds cats, is called a breeder. The place where this person breeds cats, is "officially" called a cattery, but in our case "cattery" is just a different name for our home. Mystic Melody Cattery means Dan, Judith, Tessa and Lucas Johnson, a normal family, living in a normal home, with our cats, who all live as much loved and spoiled pets.
Many people seem to have the misconception that breeders have separate buildings for their cats or that their cats live in cages. Sure, there are many breeders that  see their cats as breeding stock and do keep them that way, we're not one of them. We live in a nice subdivision, and our cats are first and foremost our pets.

We firmly believe in raising our cats and kittens underfoot, as part of our family. Cats and kittens raised in cages are usually not nearly as well socialized as when they are raised as part of a family and all the interaction that comes with that. You can clearly tell when you visit our home that our cats are used to interacting with people. They will be all over you, making sure you give them some love and attention while you're there.

We like for our cats to enjoy the outdoor world but given that it's too dangerous outside for a cat without any form of supervision, we opted to build an outdoor run in our backyard. It is still a work in progress, but the cats can go through a special kitten window in and out as they please. That way they can safely enjoy outdoor life and they are often mesmerized by all the birds and butterflies that come visit in our garden. Very entertaining for them!

Our family is involved in showing our cats in many ways. We really enjoy going to cat shows, they are a lot of fun and over the years we have made many friends in the cat fancy. Earning titles and awards on our cats and kittens tells us we are on the right track with our breeding program. We have shown our siberians at many occasions and have won many titles and awards with our cats and kittens that are proudly displayed in our home office.

Both of our children are TICA Junior Exhibitors. That means they own a cat or kitten that they show, and during the shows there are special Junior Exhibitor rings where they present their cats and their knowledge of showing, grooming, cat care and the cat fancy. It teaches our youngsters many things regarding cats, and above all, good sportsmanship. These rings are a lot of fun and they really enjoy it.

I also am a show manager in TICA, which means I organize a cat show once a year in Atlanta. This is something that involves a lot of organizing and thankfully, my entire family is on the cat show bandwagon when that happens. Without their help and support, there would be no Mystic Melody, nor would I be able to show as much as I do or put up a show once a year. This is truly a family adventure, and everyone is involved in it one way or the other, and it would not work any other way.

Breeding siberians is our hobby, our "cattery" is nothing other then our home. We dearly love our cats and always have their best interest and well being in mind when we make decisions regarding our kittens, cats and breeding program. Their health and well being comes first, the rest is all secondary. When you have time, come see us at a cat show some time and say hi, we'd love to meet you!
