What is your philosophy and approach to wellness?

I approach wellness first from a scientific perspective. Science, current science, tells us that there are three major factors to wellness.  Genetics.  Environment.  Lifestyle.  In 500 years, maybe we'll discover new keys to wellness.  Today, we work with what we know.

I find that most of my clients feel personally responsible for their wellness.  There is a culture of shame built around sickness, weakness, obesity, depression, anxiety, learning disorders, self-doubt, and sexual dysfunction.  Even though 100% of the people in our culture will have one of those "disorders," it is considered abnormal to be diagnosed with one.  When everyone has a trait, is that unwellness or is that just being human?

I believe that health is powerfully affected by genetics and environment; two things that are far stronger than willpower, desire, or motivation. Genetics and environment are the maze we all live in.    Some of us live in a maze of obesity triggers.  Some of us live in a maze of auto-immune disorders.  Some of us live in a maze of mental health challenges. Some of us live in a maze of insecurity.  Whatever the flavor, every one gets issued a maze.  Lifestyle is how we navigate through that maze.

I help clients release the shame associated with being an imperfect human being. I help clients learn maze navigation skills specific to their situation, taking into account the big picture: genetics, environment, and lifestyle.  Read more...
