Research Interests
My research is in the general area
of comparative psychology, with a specific emphasis on the study of memory
across species, including nonhuman primates.
The research I am currently working on is an extension of my Master's
thesis research, examining the integration of spatial, temporal and object
information in rhesus monkeys. The ability to integrate multiple components
(what, where, and when) from unique past events in memory is one prerequisites
for episodic memory, and therefore provides a useful starting point in
investigating this memory system in animals.
I am also currently doing comparative research on source memory in
rhesus monkeys.
I also have interests in a
parallel line of research examining how animals represent spatial information
in memory, specifically comparing the use of egocentric and allocentric memory
processes. Examining how animals
represent spatial information in memory is integral to the comparative study of
episodic-like memory; remembering past
events involves the integration of spatial and temporal information in
memory. Studying how these separate
components are encoded in memory forms a foundation for understanding how these
components can become integrated in the form of episodic memories.
