Implementing MUL authorities decisions to improve teaching and assessment standards we would like to inform that NBME ( National Board of Medical Examiners ) Comprehensive Basic Science (CBS) examination format is coming into force as obligatory
in academic year 2008/2009
for : 4MD students – at the end of the 2nd year 6MD students - at the end of the 4th year Such exam, when arranged by school, is unquestionable advantage for all those students who plan to sit for USMLE – step 1 exam. Scores of the 2008/2009 NBME CBS exam will not be considered as decisive factor to be promoted for next academic year but will indicate how students managed to absorb basic science knowledge during first two/ four years of studies. Starting from academic year 2009/2010 passing NBME CBS after 2nd (4MD) or 4th (6MD) year respectively will be one of the necessary conditions to be promoted to the further (clinical ) education either at MUL or outside. AIM students who would like to obtain Dean’s approval to pursue clinical rotations at US/UK affiliated (ACGME accredited) teaching hospitals should obligatory achieve passing score of NBME CBS exam followed by obligatory USMLE Step 1. NBME CBS exam is free of payment for all of the MUL students. We would like to encourage students to apply for NBME Subject exams prior to sit for NBME CBS.
