William Carpenter's Correspondence

Hello, my name is William Carpenter and I was a member of project team #3.  This is a copy of most of my communications relating to the YouthMap project.  There are several phone calls and Facebook messages that aren't mentioned here, but you should be able to get the gist of how I was communicating with the survey participants.  If you have any questions, you can contact me at:

Oh, and thank you for participating!

Dear Ms. Bryant,

My name is William Carpenter and I, along with other students at Tufts  University, am working on a project to build a network of  relationships between schools in the Boston area. To find these relationships and connections, we need the input of the student senators at the NEC.  If you could provide their e-mail addresses, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,

Will

Hello,

My name is William Carpenter and I, along with other students at Tufts  University, am working on a project to build a network of  relationships between schools in the Boston area.  To find these relationships and connections, we need your input--your position as a student senator at the NEC makes this all the more important.  It would be really  helpful if you could take 3 or 4 minutes to complete this quick online survey:

If you're interested, more information about the project is displayed  at the end of the survey.  I really appreciate your help and please let  me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,

Will

PS I'm sorry to contact you through Facebook, but your e-mail wasn't listed on the SGA section of the NEC website.  I tired to contact someone named Colleen Bryant Palmer (Director of Student Life & Health Services?), but she hasn't responded.  Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Will,

Thanks for the message!!!
It would be great to get a network going between schools in the Boston area.
Especially a school like NEC because as a music school, we (musicians) are not exposed at all to other schools in the area.
It would be great to have some kind of connection to get out of our "bubble" and get involved with non-musicians.
This project sounds great!!!
Please keep me posted on your progress.
Good luck!!!
Sincerely,
Soonmee~

Roxbury Community College:

You are going to have to call them!!!

Called Nov 24 ==> 617.427.0060 (listed on the RCC's website) @ 12:49 ==> Student Affairs Dept. ==> transferred Elizabeth Claw's voicemail ==> left a message asking for RCC contact information.  No response.
Called again Nov 27.  Elizabeth Claw was still unavailable.
Called again on Dec 2, Elizabeth Claw was available... suggested that I might look elsewhere.  Sigh...

Hey, it's Will Carpenter,
I'm part of a team that's working on a project to build a network of  relationships between schools in the Boston area (it's an ExCollege thing...).  To find these relationships and connections, we need student input, unfortunately our initial idea of polling student governments flopped.  Therefore, we're moving on and looking at individual clubs. Soooo... for the Tufts Democrats... I was planning to send you to the online survey, but we're running out of time.... sooo...
the questions...

Things i know:
X) ==> I already know you're @ Tufts
X) ==> You work w/ the Tufts Democrats
X) ==> You have been President of the Tufts Dems.

Things i need to be more clear on:

1) Have the Tufts Dems. worked with other Boston-area schools and/or one of their student organizations? (Y/N)
yes. Lucy is a College Dems of MA board member this year and I was last year. I know the leadership of BU, Harvard, and BC Dems pretty well.

2) How many different projects, initiatives, or goals did you work on with the school(s) or organization(s)? (1/2/3/4+)
3?

3) What did you work on? What issues did you tackle?  What was the goal?  Where did you go? What was the result?  Would you be willing to do it again? (answer can be short or long... you may abbreviate and answer like a spaz if you wish b/c I'm sure typing like one :-)
- a big Obama rally at BU last spring --> result was huge and awesomeness -- 20,000 people ish -- would definitely do again, though we didn't do much of the organization
- a small Obama rally this fall with the state party -- I didn't go? I generally don't like working with them because they're not very efficient, would probably not do again
- planning (failed) swing state trip to GA with Harvard Dems -- bummer it didn't work out because of failed funding but I LOVE working with the Harvard kids, would do again
- worked with CDM on planning a CDM convention, went, continue to go, don't love it

sorry this is rushed hope it's helpful!

Thanks so much for your time,
-Wm
