Background on the Project:Group 3 includes Anna, Antonella, Greg, Helen, Jim, Leah, Scott, and Will.
For the purposes
of this project, the terms "Boston" and "Boston area" are defined by
the boundaries of the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts.
Furthermore, "government(s)" and "student government(s)" refer to
collegiate student governments in the Boston area.
Our goal is to establish lines of communication between collegiate student governments in the Boston area. It is our hope that communication will foster collaboration and cooperation among these previously isolated entities.
Network data and analysis should reveal existing relationships between the student governments and provide clear indications of where inter-governmental communication is lacking. A final product for our project is a distribution-ready YouthMap of the student governments that includes the contact information for their respective representatives, current projects and initiatives, and existing inter-government relationships and projects (if any), and school size. The map may also include government financial resources, faculty advisor contact information, key college/university administration contact information, and a list of activities and issues on which each government might collaborate (eg. community service events, fund raising, public events, awareness campaigns, lobbying activites, protests, etc...). The network map will be distributed to the 33 collegiate student governments and other community partners such as college/university administrations, charitable organizations, and student groups.
Here's a summary of our progress on Monday, 27 October 2008 (just for reference):
Initial research has been divided among the eight group members, and each member is researching four schools. Basic information including address, school description, student government description, key student-representative contact information, and school size should be on the CIRCLE map by next class. It is likely that we will discuss contacting these schools directly by Monday, November 3, if not sooner.
