Big Themes We Discussed:

Overview of Technical Aspects:

-logging onto the map

- media lit site login

It seems like we’re just making lists of resources now. How is the map different from yellowpages?

ð     Really, the most important thing about the map is the links between nodes on it.  It’s about the relationships between people/organizations/issues – especially about those that are not readily apparent (e.g. a power structure)

The final project: what is it?

ð     The professors haven’t decided yet what format exactly the final project will be in.  It will certainly combine both the media literacy aspects that we have been studying as well as avenues for social change.  There will be a lot of creativity, so it probably will not just be an analytical sort of paper. Check back later!

About immigrant rights – the immigrants themselves won’t have access to the map, so, what’s the point?

ð     Immigrants rights groups can be the ones that have access to the map

ð     Empowerment issues? Concerns for access for immigrants themselves and not just those looking “to help them.”

Confidentiality issues:

ð     On the subject of undocumented immigrants, this is especially noteworthy

ð     We could have a consent/release form for the people who will be featured on the map so that they can have contact information listed with no worries to map-maker
