7 Myths

Myth 1: We get all the water we need from drinking juice, milk and other foods.

FACT: The water in our foods help in digesting those foods, they don't add the water needed for hydrating, flushing toxins, or building blood. We also need water to carry oxygen to the cells.

Myth 2:Caffeinated and alcoholic drinks hydrate the same as drinking water.

FACT: Caffeine and alcohol are natural diuretics. They cause the same reaction as a water pill the doctor may give you to reduce high blood pressure. Diuretic help rid your body of salt (sodium) and water. That decreases the amount of blood the body can manufacture which decreases the fluid (blood) flowing through your body.Less blood reduces pressure on the artery walls and thus reduces the 'blood pressure' or pressure from the blood. They work by making your kidneys put more sodium into your urine. The sodium, in turn, takes water with it from your blood.Do not consider alcoholic beverage, soda, coffee or tea as an equal substitute for water.

Myth 3:Drinking the recommended amount of water requires you go to the bathroom too often.

FACT: Drinking diuretics (such as caffeinated drinks and alcohol) cause you to go to the bathroom more.Water is absorbed into the cells, blood, skin, organs and tissue and does not cause excessive trips to the bathroom.

Myth 4: Drinking bottled water is better than drinking tap water

FACT:Despite the controversy surrounding tap vs. bottled water, most experts and investigative reporters seem to agree, there is not much difference between the two.In many cases, tap water tested more pure than bottled water because of the toxins that leached into the water from the plastic in the bottles.

Myth 5:It is best to drink water with your meals

FACT:If you drink too much water with your meal, you can stretch your stomach, making it easier to over eat.Drinking too little water with your meal may give you a headache, a stomach ache or make you sleepy because the body pulls water from other parts of the body (i.e. brain, intestines, joints) to help with the digestion process when not enough water is available.

Myth 6:It is best not to drink water with your meals

FACT:We need water, not just liquids, to help digest and absorb nutrients from our foods.

Myth 7:Water is Water.

FACT:Although bottled water does not seem to be better than tap water, filtered water is better. Pharmaceutical companies require filtered or distilled water when testing drugs because of the possible reaction with things present in tap water.Current research shows our drinking water contains an alarming amount of pharmaceuticals, hormones and other contaminates in it. Especially when you have a compromised immune system, you need good clean pure water to hydrate, transport medicines and flush toxins from sore painful joints. Some water is acidic. Balanced water is best for arthritis, and may be among the possible arthritis cures.

Every body is different. The causes of arthritis may be different. There are no "arthritis cures". But one thing is certain, any and all possible arthritis cures will depend on water. As a matter of fact, some, such as Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, list water on the list of natural arthritis cures to consider. He emphasizes that quantity and quality matters.
