http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/MeakinModJ & G Meakin Collectors - Welcome! This site is owned by Frances & Anne (Australia) and Sarah (UK). We are volunteering our time to record the history and patterns of this china before it gets any further lost in time.
The site is an ongoing work. Many J & G Meakin wares do not come with pattern names on the backstamps. This makes pattern identification difficult, but, over 7 years, we have managed to name over 600 patterns.
Our sister site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JGMeakin/ at Yahoo contains an A-Z series of albums, our original library, which has migrated across to this site. The Yahoo group also serves as our 'chat' function, using emails: please join and ask questions, and upload your pictures to your own album there. We acknowledge the assistance of all eBay and other online sellers for the use of their pictures. We also acknowledge Chris Marks, author of "J & G Meakin Pottery: History in the Making" (ISBN 978-0-9557171-0-9), a fabulous book documenting many post WWII pottery patterns and shapes. Anyone who is not happy about their pictures appearing on this site is welcome to contact us and we can take them down. However, please remember this is a not-for-profit public service site. It can help enhance the value of these collectables. A useful site for dating backstamps is http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/m/meakin_jg.html For a brief history of the firm to 1956, see http://www.thepotteries.org/features/meakin1956.htm We cannot offer a valuation service. But we can certainly offer some information and perhaps a ball-park figure. Please remember that the general rule of value is: It's worth whatever someone is prepared to pay. It's not Royal Doulton and doesn't sell for Royal Doulton prices. Please consider donating your photos to this site. We welcome new pictures. Tip: a piece of black cloth as a background helps show the piece well. Consider the clever photography style of 'a section' ie one corner or special part of the pattern.
