Region 5 Meeting Minutes

Last night at the Regional Meeting I had the MCVFA Prez Greg Dibrinski  and Legislative Kevin Connolly as my special guest.

 

·        I reported on the latest Fire Company Of The Month winner which was the Goshen Fire Department for the Month of January. They will be using the grant toward the purchase of a new stokes basket to supplement the low angle rescue equipment the department is in the process of acquiring. Along with the new stoke basket, which has been in service since the 1970's, they will be updating their ropes and haul system. Once this equipment is in service, it will be available to surrounding area departments through the mutual aid system.

·        I reported on the Robert J. Hindly Memorial Scholarship that the application period is still open. All applications must be filled out and mailed out before May 1st Deadline.

·        I reported on the MCVFA / SAFER Scholarship that on the 1st round we had 24 winners. 4 out of Region 5 ..

·        I reported on latest Grants that are in the national

1.      Globe gear gives 125 sets of gear to deserving departments. Appications must be received by May 31, 2012. The sets of gear will be awarded between July and December 2012

2.      Hazardous Material Emergency Preparedness Grant. Applications are now open as of March 1st thur the end of April. The grant funds transportation and related Haz-Mat panning and Training activities.

·        Under Training:

·        I reported on the Working Fire Training Video’s that the latest DVD’s 10-5 and 10-6 are available for taken out for their next drill night. And you can also view them up the Working Fire Training Website too. If interested just send me an email for the user name and password.

·        I also reported that due to budget issues MCVFA won’t be doing the Texas AM Fire School.

·              I talked about National Fire Academy begans it’s eight year of Coffee Break Training. Link to it is http://www.usfa.fema.gov/nfa/coffee-break/index.shtm

·              I passed around the of list Mass Fire Academy Classes to be held in Berkshire County.

·              Upcoming events:

·               EMSCO field day at the Mall Sunday May 20th from 10 am to 6 pm, We are looking for department to bring apparatus and equipment to display. External displays will be near Sears and need to be on site by 9 am. All arer welcome please have interested parties contact me as soon as possible so we can reserve spots for attendees

 

·         The Florida Volunteer Fireman's Association is pleased to announce that their annual pig roast will be Saturday, July 21st, 2012 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Greylock Community Club in North Adams. The Menu will consist of Pork, Corn, Macaroni Salad, Baked Beans, Corn Bread and Cake. (Hot Dog/Hamburger may be substituted for pork) Tickets are only $10 per person and are now available from any member of the department(or by contacting the station directly at 413-663-5417 on Tuesday evenings between 7:00pm and 9:00pm).

·        MCVFA President Greg Dibrindisi Report:

 

AllPro is out as our telemarketing firm, Xentel is on hold, and we are looking to go with Lee Ostrowski of RPI, who was part of our old telemarketing firm.

 

 

I reminded you of your life member and need a paragraph about Pedercini.

 

 

I need to officially appoint Butch Garrity as Regional Coordinator

 

 

Updated members on Dalton guy's check and told them of a situation a firefighter in the other half of the state is experiencing.

 

 

501C3 is being formed for fundraising

 

 

Fire and Ice in July, Chief's Show in June.

 

 

In June, a decal and membership card will be sent out to all members

 

 

Kevin Connolly mentioned possible property tax breaks for members, more details to be announced....

 

 

 

·         Raffle:

·         Fire Chief David Rash donated a Maglight Flashlight for the raffle.
